They both use a drawing system to select someone from the town or district. They randomly select a person, and they are immediately sent to their death. In The Lottery, on page 2, it says "...slips of paper and put them in a box..." This shows how they set up a way to randomly draw for a person to be killed for the tradition. In the Hunger Games, they put everyone's name in a bowl, and randomly draw a person's name to join the hunger games.

'Let's finish quickly'" This shows how they chose her, and immediately sent her to die. In the hunger games, they chose them, and immediately sent them into the games to die.

In the Lottery, they would kill them because they thought it would help with the outcome of crops from the fall harvest. In the Hunger Games, they killed them to control the population of the districts. On page 4, of the Lottery, it says "Used to be a saying about'Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon.'" This shows how the purpose of the lottery is to help with the crop outcome of the fall harvest, rather than how the Hunger Games does it for population control.

In The Lottery, when you were chosen, you were immediately killed. In the Hunger Games, they are sent you out there to kill or be killed by the others in the games. On page 6 of the Lottery, it says "'All right folks.' Mr. Summers said. 'Let's finish quickly.'...The children has stones already." This shows how they were killed on the spot, rather than being hunted by the other chosen people, like the Hunger Games.
