I wish I knew more, as a teacher aide I wasn't really exposed to doing many assessments.

I never had any bad experiences with assessments other than not scoring well on them. It was mainly the big tests like MSTEP, NWEA, MEAP, and others that completely drained me.

As a student, I hated taking tests because I would stress about them to the point that I physically felt sick.

As a teacher, I understand that assessments can be used to see what a child knows and what a child has learned. They can be formal (like the SAT) or informal (have a discussion about an assignment).

I was not a great test taker in school. I feel like the assessments were not as forced on us. I remember being tested in like 4,6 and 8th grades and then the big ones (ACT) in high school. Now, I think that there are too many assessments, especially during the first part of the school year. I am not sure that I agree with what the out comes of the assessments tell us.

I notice that a lot of my classmates are saying negative things about assessments. I think that they have gotten a bad rap over the years, and I am hoping that they are getting better. I think that they really impact the students and teachers, but they give a baseline on what Tiered support the students belong in.

I always received relatively good scores on assessments, but they exhausted me. So much stress and pressure was placed on all of us students that we absolutely DREADED test time. I know that they can be beneficial for both teachers and students alike, but it's very important to focus on the environment you create surrounding tests.

I always felt pressured around assessments and that if I didn't do good on it then it was going to have a negative impact on how I was doing. I noticed that my classmates were sharing that they had negative experiences with them as well.

I think assessment is super important in education, it's just how it is presented can be that negative experience for people. When I know I am being assessed/evaluated I tend to not do as well because there is a lot of unnecessary pressure.
