ARTIST

I was interested in the framing in section of a map because It reminds me of the map I have been looking at in my own work. I love the aspect of the map becoming the work. The framing I things helps the views to focus on a specific junction, unlike usual maps which are filled with information and is hard to process. The framing creates an repetition as within the map you see more frames of where different streets intersect. He use white paper surface in which he draws on. I think that is interesting as it make the work seem simple and intimate because it is not overly worked on with different material or image of the physical place. I like how he uses lines in this work.

Using an acrylic block because of it's smooth surface and thickness I decided to paint some of the lines I traced from the picture like I did the jeans. The red line for the gate, yellow for the frames and blue for the outline of the jeans. I used those 3 colours because they are the colours of the DRCongo flag. Blue represents peace. Red stands for "the blood of the country's martyrs", yellow the country's wealth. I choose this because I think it resonated with those being the messages I was trying to rase awareness on.

Reading back on my first details of the location of my dad, I started tracing into cracks of a copy of the jeans I had cropped and printed. I used different colours. I used the red colour for the small cracks that where not very thick and hard to see and gold for the thick ones. At first it reminded me of a river because the traces reminded me of a map of all the rivers because of how they connected. I then started to connect the tracing I had done on the jeans with the map I had been exploring in my research.
