Though much has to do with our current pandemic from COVID-19, the rates in which it has fluctuated has been insane. Uruguay has the lowest positions filled by females in any political or high rank jobs in all of Latin America. Women also only earn an estimated 61% of the average earning for men. This is a huge problem for Uruguay considering the work that has been put into equality for men and women in all setting of work. They have two main systems, one with private hospitals run by private enterprises, and public hospitals run by the government. The private hospitals supply a larger variation of care and more equipment, but requires a one hundred dollar monthly fee to gain access to. They call this system the Mutualista Plan. There is also a public option that you can opt for which is referred to as the Administracíon de Los Servivious de Salud del Estado, or the ASSE. This system requires no fee and is for low-income citizens. It is mainly for broad access to older people with pre-existing conditions and all you need to have access to this care is your Uruguayan ID card. With their care becoming easily accessible and increasingly better, their life expectancy has been very high. But, still with those options, their health care and spending for things like medications and equipment has been very poor. Their largest age demographic is older than most, being around the thirties. Which can be explained by their high death rate. The main reasoning for these deaths has a lot to do with health care and the treatments and equipment that Uruguay has access to. Uruguay is not a very wealthy state, so they have a lower budget when it comes to spending to be able to treat any and all patients. Especially with COVID, there hasn't been enough resources to be able to properly handle and move on from the pandemic efficiently.
