This was the last of the great castles built during the Renaissance in the Loire Valley. Its resident was not a king but a minister. Minister Jean Le Breton built this castle by 1536 using his experience as an architect. The minister was also into gardening, and the ornamental gardens were created throughout the Middle Ages.
In the early 19th century, Napoleon Bonaparte acquired the castle for his brother Jerome. Now, it is one of the most visited castles, with multiples awards, such as Label Qualité Tourisme (2009) and Eco-jardin (2013). The gardens are intended to protect the environment and are very eco-friendly. People come from all over the world to see these gardens.
