1. A lot of collective effort goes into IPE and IPC. You have to consider each person in the team - the patient, family, fellow rehabilitation professionals, nurses, and physicians - their skills, cultures, similarities, and differences in order to achieve patient centered care. Communication is a big part of the process from turning strangers into patients or colleagues and eventually, friends.

2. I discovered that I had experienced small scale versions of IPE before. In essence, IPE happens when 2 or more health care professionals work together. But I'd like to consider that having even 2 people of different backgrounds, working together to reach a common goal is also considered an early form of IPE. Thus, I believe I still have a lot to learn from others, and I also have things to teach others being in the SLP department. What I like about IPE is that each professional is as important as the other, and everyone has something to contribute.

3. I will use what I learned in both areas. Professionally is what we aim to achieve academically and in the practice. I hope to be able to work with other professionals to ensure patient care is achieved. However, I'd also like to use it personally because I think the core competencies of IPE can help improve other aspects of my life such as honing empathy, respect for others, and communication skills with people of different backgrounds.

In learning collaboratively, I learned that when collaborating with other professionals, we can learn from each other by respecting each other’s decisions in order to have effective collaboration. With this, we can achieve the most effective and suitable intervention/management for the client that will address his needs and wants. In patient-centered care, one of the key insights I learned is the importance of respect and support. In order to provide full support for the patient’s needs and wants, we professionals should understand the patient’s condition and respect the patient’s and patient family’s decision. Additionally, I also learned the importance of connection and empathy. Connecting with your patients and showing them empathy can make your relationship stronger, as the patient will trust you. With all this being said, we can achieve an effective intervention/management that is best suitable for the patient, especially in addressing his needs and wants

I discovered how I am determined to reach my goals and accomplish what I started. I also discovered that I am a good listener and I care for other people. As much as possible, I give them advice about their struggles in life. I also discovered how I am concerned about the future, especially that the pandemic is ongoing and there is uncertainty in life. Nonetheless, I am still hopeful and positive that this will end soon and we can go back to living our normal lives again.

I will use my learnings in both areas. Professionally, by collaborating with other professionals and personally in handling/treating my future patients. These learnings are essential in order to achieve successful and effective collaboration with each other and provide the best intervention/management for our patients. Additionally, these learnings can also guide me in handling/treating my future clients which will help me provide the best support and care, as well as achieve the best management for them.

The key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care” specifically was that the interprofessional education is not just about having to work together with a bunch of other people from different courses and fields. It is about having us, the students who are going to be future professionals, in preparation to understand the capabilities and limitations of one another. Through learning how to collaborate with each other, we learn how to have a common language for clear communication which aids in the development of the set of skills to coordinate effectively to deliver learn-based care. For this to happen, it involves the continuous interaction and sharing of knowledge between the members. This is important to consider because it means considering and acknowledging the different people in my team, those who may not come from the place that I come from and those that don’t necessarily think the same way as I do. It means that communication and getting to know the different members of my team is important in that we effectively work together and ultimately be able to deliver the best and most holistic service to our clients and patients. Aside from what was mentioned, communication and getting to know each other is also important for the team itself in that instead of viewing each other as just coworkers, we can see each other as friends, family or even just human beings we also take great care to look out for, aside from the patients themselves. As said in the lecture, “From an ecological standpoint, the person is a microcosm of different and overlapping systems.” This means that in taking care of ourselves and each other, we also get to take care of our patients and clients as well.

What I discovered about myself is that I too have already experienced the IPE before, though in a much smaller scale and in different contexts. A lot of those moments were with people I have never worked with or even interacted with before. One example was being part of the CRS student council wherein I had greater interactions with the other departments of OT, SPS and SLP. A lot of those times, despite coming from different backgrounds, we have all worked together to give great outputs, and to this day, I treasure the people I have met from those departments. I think I still have a lot to learn and there are still a lot of adjustments and growth I have to do in order to work well in a team of diverse people. To be honest, I think it’s great to learn how each of us can contribute to the wider picture of health care delivery.

I will use what I learned in both my personal and professional life. In my professional life, I hope and try to be someone who is able to work well with other people even in highly stressful environments which entails learning to how to be sensitive and be open to other people’s voices and not let personal convictions get in the way of being able to do our jobs well. In my personal life, I will use what I learned to develop my sense of empathy, “pakikisama” and “pakikibahagi” as to not only be more socially aware in the community that I reside in, but to also give the people I interact with the respect that they deserve. In that way, I am can be much more “makatao”.

1. IPC & IPE emerged because there was a need to fulfill. It plays an important role in giving the best possible care for our patients and has impacted positively to those who had taken it up and applied it. I also learned that there are a lot of things that go into this to make it effective and possible. Regarding patient-centered care, I realized that long gone are the days where MDs opinion is the only one that matters. Putting the person & community at the center before the illness is something that we should start putting into practice for its effectiveness and positive effects on the patient. Interactions with them influence their health outcome as well so learning about their values and cultures is also vital in order to have a successful session. From this perspective, we could see that collaboration is not limited between professionals alone but also with our patients.

2. I learned how little I know regarding IPC/IPE in general and I'm looking forward to learning more about it in the succeeding lessons. I also realized that some of the things taught in patient-centered care are things that we already apply into practice such as knowing their lifestyle, hobbies, or livelihood in order for us to plan exercises that would cater to those.

3. The things I've learned today can both be applied to my professional and personal life. In my profession, I will keep this in mind whenever I interact with my patient, remembering how much of an impact I make, asking their input, and that they are not defined by their illness. And in my personal life, whenever I mingle with other people that despite our differences, I should know "makisama" at "makipagkapwa".

1. I was able to learn about the types of care that we can give to our patients by working as one team. We give our co-workers a chance to learn more about our field and expertise, which will increase the level of care our patients would have. Patient-centered care on the other hand, teaches us that we can also educate our patients and their families how they could give proper medication and therapy. They give importance on how they would be able to discuss and collaborate with their doctors.
2. I discovered that I could still venture out in terms of learning how to collaborate with other people. It is vital that we are able to communicate with other professionals so that we could continue to learn on how we could support our patients. Of course, communication is also important on the patient's side of things. We should not only be there in terms of just doing our jobs, but we should also try to think on how they would be able to handle or cope with the situation properly. We should give them proper advice and support so that they could continue on with their lives.
3. I think both areas could be used, since both the professionals and the patients can benefit from the programs stated within the lesson. We should always think about what is the best management that we could provide for our patients, since they are depending on us with their progress in health.

Most importantly, the trust you put on to other professionals. We all have limitations in our scope and they can fill in our gaps to provide the best quality care to our patients. Meanwhile, in patient-centered care, I learned to prioritize respecting the patients' preferences.

2. I discovered that I also learn from my friends who are in the medical field by sharing their experiences and learning. Somehow, I get to have a background in their scope.

1. Throughout the lesson, I learned the things that we need to consider when working with a team and make each and everyone’s dynamics work. When we go to our practice, we will encounter different people with a different set of values which is why collaborative learning is essential. We must be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the team to come up with the best possible approach. Moreover, I was also able to learn about patient-centered care in which we have to always respect and put the patient’s wants and beliefs above anything else. Through this, we are taking into account the patient’s decision and provide them with the best quality service throughout their prognosis.

2. I discovered that I still have a lot of things to learn especially when I go to our practice. There are still a lot of opportunities wherein I will encounter people from different fields and get a chance to work with them which is why I am not closing the door to my growth. Even as a student, we were already given a chance to work with students from the different departments through this course and I know that these encounters will further broaden my knowledge on different aspects of patient care.

3. Professionally, I can use these learnings to look at both sides of the spectrum and consider not only the healthcare team’s advice but the patient’s perspective as well. Since the whole treatment plan is for the patient’s sake, we should always be ready to give them the physical and mental support that they need throughout their treatment. I can also apply the learnings of collaboration personally especially when I build relationships with people. An example would be our IPE group. Even though we can consider our group as something on the professional aspect, we can also establish friendships outside of our academic responsibilities while also improving different aspects of ourselves that will be helpful for our future careers.

1. In the learning collaboratively, I learned that each and everyone’s decisions and opinions are equally important. We need to learn how to build trust and respect because all of us have different scopes, but we are all a team and we share the same goal which is to help or take care of others’ health and wellbeing. For Patient Centered Care, as the topic says, the patient is the center. We professionals should understand and respect the patient’s decision. It is important what the patient and his/her family say. Also, if the patient is happy and contented, it can greatly affect their health and treatment will be smooth and easier. Overall, communication and collaboration are important not just to us professionals but also with our patients.
2. I discovered that I have a lot to learn from other people because not all of us have the same experiences in life. Communication is also significant because if you’re not communication well with others, it may lead to misunderstanding and can further to lead to worst scenarios. I also learned that I can listen well to others and can give advice when needed.
3. Professionally, I’ll use what I learned to work well with others and when I’m interacting or treating my future patients. I’m excited to work well with other professionals because we all have a common goal. Personally, I can build good relationships with others and respect each and everyone’s individuality.

In our future practice, we need to keep in mind that we don’t know everything. In order for us to improve our collaborative and communicative skills, we have to be open minded about the ideas of our fellow professionals to be able to give the best treatment to our patients.

1. What are the key insights I learned from the session on “Learning Collaboratively” and “Patient Centered Care”?

Collaborative learning and practice are not just superficial methods we utilize in our respective professions. It is an effort for the members of the team to acknowledge each other’s strengths and weaknesses. As professionals striving for a common goal, we learn to promote harmonious relationships through communication and sharing our skills, perspectives, and knowledge within our fields. Consequently, client-centered care will be attainable since we allow ourselves to be open with the opinions of other professionals that are more proficient to the problems of the clients to ensure their optimal recovery and well-being.

2. What did I discover about myself?

As a student, I still lack the knowledge, skills, and experiences to handle clients on my own. I learned that my efforts to reach out and communicate to other students across the college are not enough to gather insights that can help me in the future. I should be more persistent in honing my collaborative skills to prepare myself as I venture into the field of rehabilitation.

3. In which areas, personal or professionally, will I use what I learned?

I believe that what we practice personally will also reflect in our professional pursuits. Thus, using what I learned in both areas will be wise to obtain a wider perspective in which I can incorporate to be more consistent. As social beings, we must maximize our opportunities to collaborate and learn from others, even in our personal lives wherein we can influence our professional and work ethics that are client-centered.

1. IPE and IPC requires many people of different professions to work hand-in-hand. This is the superficial perception I've always held. I learned from the lecture that it isn't as simple as a group of people working together, rather, it is a group of professionals who efficiently and collectively strive to serve the clients better. Each profession has a piece in the puzzle of holistic well-being. Not one can cater to all needs. Everyone, has something impactful to deliver. The patient/ client, their families, rehab professionals like ourselves and other health allied professions, as well as social workers, teachers, and community leaders must work together in pursuit of an inclusive approach to enabling occupations. Further, I learned the importance of true and peaceful communication where respect is a key tenet. Where all ideas will be heard, where there are equal speaking opportunities, after all, it is not ourselves we want heard but the needs of our clients that is essential for him to live a meaningful life.

2. I realized how in my life, I have been employing micro IPCs in the sense that, I handle organizations with people of different expertise and strengths, people coming from different industries and programs, people of different socio-economic standing and educational attainment, yet in the end, making sure that our goals of making a positive impact to the lives of our beneficiaries are met. And in that process, we learn from one another's experiences and stories. If I go smaller, even in the household, where each member of the family plays a vital role to ensuring a healthy home, we practice IPC. Among my siblings and myself, my eldest sister being a lawyer and my second sister being a Philosophy major have insights that may or may not align with my 4th sister and myself who share medical perspectives. My 3rd sister has insights as a businesswoman that may or may not apply to the others. Bottom-line is, the concepts of IPE and IPC are as relevant in micro institutions as it is in macro settings.

3. Ultimately, I can use what I learned in all aspects of my current and future life! As a licensed financial advisor, as a businessman myself, as a changemaker in society, and someday as a rehab practitioner. I will use what we learned when communicating and collaborating with people of different industries and generations to come up with collective efforts to build society and its institutions. Ultimately, someday, as a rehab practitioner, I will use what we learned to maximize the therapeutic impact of our collective services.

1. The concept of Learning Collaboratively and Patient Centered Care are interconnected with each other. In Learning Collaboratively, the greatest takeaway I can get is that working with other professionals aligned with my specialty can help me get an on-hand experience on what they do and how their work can help me do my work. Applying IPE will help us determine the strengths and weaknesses of one another in which will help us know if a certain task can be handled by them alone. By working with respect and harmony, together, we can provide the best and most effective course of treatment for the patient/client. On the other hand, in Patient Centered Care, the main point is to know how to respect and prioritize the needs and wants of the patients/clients. Combining IPE and IPC will help us build trust and respect while gaining insights and knowledge from each other which can help us do our roles better.

2. Personally, I've experienced this kind of relationship when I was in therapy for my ACL tear on left knee. In order for me to recover from my injury, a collaborative work between my PT, Ortho doctor, S&C coach, and Psychiatrist is needed for my successful therapy. As they were able to work harmoniously, I recovered well and I was very thankful for them since they made me feel safe and they encourage me throughout the whole process.

3. The things that I learned in IPE and IPC are beneficial and can be applied both personally and professionally. Personally, I can apply it when I am meeting new people and to improve my values, such as respect, connection, relationship, patience, and more. In applying it professionally, it will help me build relationship, trust, and teamwork with other health care professionals for the benefit of our patient/client.

1. What are the professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As a future physical therapist, the professional roles and responsibilities of physical therapists is primarily centered around the holistic intervention and care for the patient. With that said, physical therapists are more focused on the general body structures and mechanics of the human body in that our main goal is for the client to be able to reach their most optimal functioning self, not necessarily the self they had before their diseases or accident, but for them to reach, hopefully, optimal independence and satisfaction.

This means that interventions and modalities that will be provided by the physical therapists are based after the activities done by the patient daily. In most cases, this means that physical therapists are there to ensure their patient may be able to take care of themselves after the sessions with minimal or even no effort at all.

This also includes patient education wherein the physical therapists educates the patient to either gain back the abilities they once had, to compensate by using other, stronger strategies, or to adapt by adopting a new lifestyle as to buffer or not repeat the conditions that they experienced.

2. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

Occupational Therapists offer client-centered services that cater to clients’ specific and unique needs. OT services are accessible by clients across clients of all ages. Occupational Therapy evaluation, intervention, and outcomes are centered in these following domains: Activities of daily living (ADLs), Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), health management, rest and sleep, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation. OTs have flexible roles in achieving the clients’ optimal and independent participation in meaningful activities. The non-professional duties of an OT are to be an active listener as well as a collaborative and open-minded member of the team. An OT should be versatile in situations that calls for abrupt modifications and changes that occurs in the rehabilitative process of a client.

2.

1. What are professional and/or non-professional roles and responsibilities in your chosen field?

As a professional, Sports Scientists are responsible for knowing, analyzing, and interpreting the latest information and data about sports from journals, literature, books, etc. that can help in improving the training program. This information are usually in the form of numbers that's why Sports Scientists should be able to interpret and explain these numbers to athletes and clients. They also take note of new sports technologies that can accurately provide the latest status of the individual. By knowing these statistics, we would be able to make the necessary adjustments to improve the performance of the athlete/client and reduce the risks of injuries. For the coaching side, it is important to make a training program that is in-line with the goal of the athlete/client and guide them all-throughout the training. Finally, it is also our responsibility to make everyone in the team, especially coaches, know the importance of incorporating science in training regimen to maximize the potential of the athletes/clients while reducing the risk for unwanted and unnecessary injuries.

As a team member, my primary responsibility is to listen and communicate well with my team members. A lot of information is needed before you can create a training program designed for a certain individual, especially for clients with health conditions.

2. What is the value of role clarity among members of the team?

One thing I learned through our discussions is that we all have common ground, at some point we have similarities with regards to our role and responsibility. This makes that value of role clarity important before creating a plan of action. If we know specifically our role, we would be able to do it properly and accurately, giving the best possible care for the patient. It will also make our work efficient, at the same time, it will improve our work relationship as well as communication and respect with each other.

Communication and teamwork are important in one group as they will result in success in achieving goals. My group/team communicated well during the planning and making of PLA3. During our meeting, we talked about the different roles needed in this activity. We also asked each other about the roles that each one of us would want to portray so that there will be no complications and misunderstandings. At the end of the meeting, it was also asked if there are clarifications and questions regarding the roles and the activity, which is also important in a team in order to clear out the confusion. For our second meeting, we discussed the script and flow of the video. The scriptwriters did a great job in portraying their roles because they explained to us the flow of the video, how the lines should be said, and how the actions should be done. However, during our second meeting, we are not complete because some of us had prior appointments/schedules, which for me is normal. It would have been better if we scheduled the meeting a few days ahead so that everyone could clear out their schedule and be available at the meeting. The actors, video editors, and designers also did a great job in portraying their roles because the video was successfully and beautifully made.

Back when I was in senior high school, my section was tasked to create and execute a play. First, I was assigned to be an actor with no choice. I got annoyed because they did not ask for my permission and I was also shy and hesitant to decline because the whole class was there. However, at the end of the class, I just talked to my teacher because I am not confident with my role and I don’t want to be the person that would ruin our play. We came to an agreement that I should find someone within my classmates that would be willing to exchange roles with me. Luckily, I talked to my friend and she willingly helped and exchanged roles with me. I also helped her by practicing and rehearsing her lines together. I also made some suggestions on how she can improve the intonation and loudness of her voice, as well as what actions suit the scenes. The sub-competencies applicable to this situation are respect, cooperation, and trust. For a team to have a successful outcome, there should be respect within each other, ask for permission first before coming up with a decision. The team members should also exhibit cooperation in order for the team to have a fruitful and successful collaboration, just like how I talked to my teacher and explained my point of view. Lastly, there should be trust, the team members should trust each other, just like how my friend and I trusted each other, which resulted in a successful and wonderful play.

1. Why should we reflect on practice? What skills are needed to reflect on practice?

We should reflect on practice because it is a way to learn and improve for the better. In life, learning does not stop it is continuous and by reflecting on practice, we acknowledge this thought. The skills needed in reflecting on practice are self-awareness, acceptance, and critical thinking.

2. What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? How can you apply this model in your future practice?

My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb’s reflective cycle. Because it clearly demonstrates how one can reflect, learn and improve based on the situation that happened. This can be applied to my future practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist because there will be events or situations, might it be unexpected or not that will happen. This model will help me synthesize and reflect on the situation by following the steps. First, by describing what happened. Second, by describing my feelings and emotions that possibly led to the situation, Third, by evaluating what happened and describing the good and bad experiences. Fourth, by analyzing what learnings can I learn from the situation. Fifth, by drawing a conclusion by thinking about what could I have done to make the situation better which relates to the last step, which is the action plan. The last one is the most important. If this kind of situation happens again in the future, I will now know how to act because I already have an action plan.

1. Why should we reflect on practice? What skills are needed to reflect on practice?

Reflective practice is important to us since it helps us understand ourselves and our profession better. By making time and space for understanding, we give ourselves a chance to do deep thinking. This also helps us evaluate and develop the practice we currently have, as well as preventing stagnation of our development. We also learn how to keep ourselves motivated and keeps our curiosity and creativeness flowing. It also helps us develop our self-awareness and provide supervision and careful decision-making in terms of constructing professional knowledge.

2. What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? How can you apply this model in your future practice?

Borton's developmental framework shows us a simple loop process as to how we are able to develop a reflective practice. This can help in my future practice because it would help me determine the things I am doing, as well as knowing the cause and effects of what happened during a certain situations. In doing so, I can process myself in another perspective. In a way, this helps me critique myself properly and know what I was thinking and doing. This would then help me know what I could change and where I could improve in the future.

Communication and teamwork is essential in any group working towards a common goal. For our IPE group, I liked how we were able to openly speak and with not one person monopolizing the discussion. I think it is important that everyone gets equal speaking opportunity. Moreover, everyone is open to the ideas of one another, making the discussion a true collaborative effort. This really helped with the accomplishment of our goals.

The team was able to speak, listen, and inquire on one another's insights making sure that each though is deeply considered and discussed. However, our team could benefit in more exercises on expressing oneself because although the environment provided a safe space to talk, I think some members are held back by personal reasons. Further, it was great how our leaders were able to really consider the strengths and limitations of every member in assigning tasks. Everyone had a say on which task and how they will do it. From the script, to actors, to the design, and editing, I believe it was all done with the same end goal in mind that's why, we all knew which direction to take more or less.

In highschool, we would have a yearly Intramurals / Sportsfest competition. Sections (of about 40 people each) would be paired and the pairs would compete with each other with a 8-10 minute dance presentation. I was part of the core team during my 4th year of highschool and two of the main choreographers were arguing about the formations and transitions. Essentially, they were talking about the same thing - for people to form a triangle then transition into a circle formation; however, I think they were just too heated to listen to each other.

My role as a friend was to calm them down, but my role as part of the core team was to ensure that we'd have a decision that would benefit the performance. The other core members and I tried to break them up. Unfortunately, they began to scream at each other and one of them, who had tachycardia, was rushed to the hospital due to increased heart rate. Subsequently, that calmed the other one down who dropped the issue to contact the school staff and the girl's parents. While this was happening, the other half of the core team let the dancers learn new choreography instead of focusing on the formations. The other half were able to clear up the issue between the two choreographers and proceeded with dance practice.

One of the sub-competencies that are highly applicable here is "Manage ethical dilemmas specific to interprofessional patient-/population- centered care situations". It was as if the other core members and I were the ethics committee of the clinic or hospital. We had to handle both dilemmas and ensure that they would get resolved within the day. We did not have time to spare, but we could not also spare our friendships. In the end, both choreographers remained friends and the performance was successful.

What?
Our group was tasked to make a video highlighting the importance of communication to administrators. I had the role of scriptwriter alongside 2 other students. Together, we were able to make a script with technical cues, speech cues, color scheme, and audio references. It took us one night (specifically 3 hours) of being on call and collaborating on the output. We set a meeting with our groupmates the next day via Zoom and pitched the script to them. We addressed questions and concerns, and sent a link to the recording for those who could not attend.

So what?
This showed me that our IPE group has committed members and is open to new ideas. The scriptwriters were able to build on each others ideas. We started by defining our audience and finding a niche to latch on to. The actors, designers, and video editors showed honesty when they asked for clarifications on the cues. Perhaps in some areas, the script could have been more specific - however, we also made some parts open to interpretation to give creative freedom to the rest of the team. I was thinking that this could help them feel a greater sense of ownership of the material and make their contributions more genuine.

Now what?
I think we should continue to communicate efficiently and effectively. We took heed of each other's schedules as we made our internal deadlines. I think one point of improvement would be to give updates whenever someone would upload their video in the drive so that the editors would be aware.

We are called to do reflective practice for our stakeholders and beneficiaries. No person / clinician is perfect. Everyone has something to improve or to internalize - be it practicing a therapeutic technique or working on one's mental strength. Doing this can help us examine why things happen, analyze our actions and feelings, and determine the best course of action for the future. Being a clinician (or student clinician) is also a high-stress occupation. Engaging in reflective practice can help us process our emotions and help us come to terms with actions we can't undo. It helps us cultivate a growth mindset and open our minds to multiple views.

The specific skills needed to do reflective practice are Introspection, Description, Critical analysis, Synthesis, Evaluation, and Intervention. Relating this to therapy - introspection can be like case history, we have to know what happened, when, where, why, and with whom to get a clear picture of the situation. Description is the results of our assessments at face value. Critical analysis is our clinical impression per area, it is when we scrutinize the results for what they could mean. Synthesis is the making of a case map - tying different results together and viewing how they interact to impact the situation. Evaluation is the narrative analysis where we pinpoint certain areas or diagnose the problem from its root causes and effects. Intervention is therapy where we take steps to strengthen, compensate, or remedy the situation.

My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb's Reflective Cycle. Coming from a recent patient handling session, I can review the video recording to get a description, analyze my feelings of nervousness and tiredness for feelings, and evaluate the good and bad in my performance. In analysis, I know that the good is exposure and practice for Filipino, and bad is that my Filipino needs working on and I need to build confidence for patient handling. For the conclusion, I could have prepared more and earlier as well. I could have memorized my scripts as well as their pronunciations. My action plan is that I have to practice Filipino more especially to those who are not in the medical field so that I can gauge how easily people understand my speech. I can apply this to future practice as well with the situations I will face in and out of the clinic.

I often find myself being in a team. A particular memory of when there was intense difference in opinion was during a National overnight camp held at Siena College with participants of over 900 students and faculty from across the country. As the Head of the event, everyone would go to me once they encounter a problem they couldn't solve. I've always taught my team that each and everyone is a leader and are capable of addressing and troubleshooting issues and they did. All problems in terms of parking, food, talent, program are all being handled. However, a specific problem arose with one of our media partners. We paid them to cover the event with a staff of 10 people.

Apparently, the person I assigned to handle them and their needs got into an argument. I didn't interfere because I knew my team could handle a small problem. A group of 4 people from my core team came to me and raised their concerns with one HS student crying. They had a plethora of concerns from the cleanliness, work ethics, crass speech, and so on. I assured them that I will look into the situation. A couple of minutes later, while I was on the phone with one of speakers, the head of the media partner barged in to my war room (meeting room)stomping her feet and really agitated. She started shouting about how her team was not being managed properly. They were treated poorly, the food provided was not enough, and so on. This was a Thomasian College Girl from the Arts and Letters. At the time, I was a Senior High School Student. I finished my conversation on the phone and asked her to calm down. I spoke with her calmly and radioed all committee heads and all quadrant leaders of the media team into the meeting room. One by one, I asked everyone to air out their concerns, emphasizing that it was a safe space and everything shared will remain inside the meeting room and are for the improvement of the working relationship. Apparently, the only problem was miscommunication and everything was fixed between all committee and quadrant heads. To my mind, the issue has been fixed and everyone was working well.

Until, their org head (who was not in the event, a faculty from UST) went to the meeting room accompanied by again an agitated media team leader. Respectfully, I presented all information, all sides, how it was handled, and what the problems was. But, it seemed that as expected, the head was biased towards his students. Thinking to myself, that if these people refuse to resolve the matter so be it. Calmly, I told them that I think this is unprofessional and that I too need to get this matter to the attention of my adviser, an administrator of UST. He suddenly tried to be kind and said not to involve my adviser anymore. However, I think at this point, it is a must. Not only for my sake but for all the members of my team.

They were both reprimanded by my adviser and said that we will never work with the organization if they don't clean up their act. My adviser also got insights from other faculties from different schools present at the time. They all agreed that I and my team handled everything well and that the media team were really boisterous and unprofessional.

Of course, I initiated that we reconcile before we get out of the meeting room. They apologized to me and I asked them to apologize to the team instead. Likewise, I apologized for any shortcoming on our end. We worked very well from then on. Three more events went on and we worked well with them. Recently, they even invited me to be the assistant director of the Thomasian Welcome Party in 2019.

The resolution of the issue was on different levels. I think even in IPE, it is important that we work hand in hand to resolve any issue and serve the clients better. However, although on a specific level, it is addressed, there might still be issues on a higher level and we must recognize when things are beyond our mandate and control .

What?

Our group was assigned the task to produce a video highlighting the importance of communication in regards to administrators. I had the role of designing the theme of the video alongside one other person. In order to do that, I also listed to the scriptwriters and planners of the video discuss for around 2-3 hours in a zoom meeting. I then consulted with my partner designer and the scriptwriters to get more clarification regarding my task. Then, my partner designer and I went off to work. Then, after the designed were finished, we then informed the video’s cast and video editors that we were done so that they may able to proceed with their roles.

So What?

This highlights the amount of trust my group mates have in one another and how much respect they have for each other’s roles. All of us ensured that the rest of the group won’t be having a hard time in their roles, starting from the very tedious work done by the script writers down to the final output of our video by the video editor. We trust that each and everyone of us will be able deliver well. This also means that we open communication with one other and that we are eager to work with each other.

Now What?

I think that since we work so well as a group, we should continue doing what we have done (e.g. be efficient in communication, be responsible, and trust each other) in order to produce that same quality outputs as we have done previously. I think one area we may need to improvement on though is probably that we may also alert each other about the progress of our tasks so that we may have an idea and set realistic expectations.

How did the team communicate?

Overall, it can be seen that the team communicates efficiently. Most notably through zoom and in messenger, we are not necessarily afraid of voicing our opinions, and we trust that what we say is valid and may be helpful for the the group. Most of the time, we actually arrange meetings and try to answer the tasks given to us and that proven to be effective and efficient, but even in messenger, dissemination and relaying of information is clean and fast. Overall, we were open, honest and efficient when we communicate towards one another, actively listening.

During my second year of college, I was in the CRS student council PRO committee, and for this one project we had to work with another group as it was their project we are going to give a design for. However, discussions with each other were getting heated especially when we were nearing CRS week and almost everything was due by then. Since I was the EA to the EB at that time, it was also one of my roles to ensure that peace was kept and to ensure the protection of my committee. In order to do this, I suggested or encouraged a session wherein the group members from both committees would say their honest feelings about each other towards one another, to release whatever anger and frustration they have. It was intense at first, but fortunately, it got lighter by the end. After that, they understood each others’ point of views and left the session with no hard feelings.

The specific sub-competency applicable to this situation would be “Embracing the cultural diversity and individual differences that characterize patients, populations and health care team.” In this situation, the differences in opinion have led to frustration and mistrust. However, that should not be the case, as we should be more thoughtful and sensitive to the differences in opinion, because even if we have different tasks, we have one main goal which was to ensure a great CRS week. Here, it takes empathy, active listening, and the appreciation of the opportunity to learn about one another. In this situation, I am glad that both got over their differences, and learned a lot about each other, wherein during CRS week, they were able to fully support each other. Because of this, CRS was a success.

What?
-The team was tasked to make a video regarding collaboration between different administrators which was somehow challenging for us since we do not have enough knowledge on how collaboration happens between them. This gave us a chance to study our lessons again and research on it so that we will have sufficient knowledge on what we are going to do for the video.

So what?
-While planning for the PLA 3, the team scheduled a meeting for us to properly delegate the tasks that need to be done. We tried to get everyone's opinions regarding the overall flow of our video and the specifics that will make our output better. The meeting served as an avenue for us to know what aspects each member excels on and we divided the task based on the skills of each.

Now what?
-We wanted to apply a participative type of leadership and give the members the freedom to choose what they want to work on so that we can expect efficient and high-quality results. With this in mind, we can implement this type of collaboration on future outputs so that everyone will have the chance to voice out their suggestions and open the floor for dialogue between the team.

2.)

Recently, my group together with another group was assigned to work together to present movement disorders during our case presentation. I was assigned to be part of the identification of direct & indirect impairment, activity limitation, and participation restriction together with a partner from the other group. I reached out to her and asked her if she wanted to call while working so that communication and discussion would be easier. We list down the presentations of the patient one by one and categorized them with that mention above. We didn't simply placed the presentation in where we think it would be on our own, we consulted each other and heard our rationale for each. There was an instance where we didn't agree on a certain thing. Instead of shoving our opinions on each other, we worked together to look for possible references that would rationalize that certain impairment. I would say that it was a healthy discourse between two professionals. The sub competency that I think would be applicable here is the one which says that "interprofessional collaboration must be based on mutual respect and trust to be effective". We collaborated and respected each other's opinion. We worked together and trusted each other in looking for reference. And in the end, we were able to effectively classify the presentations accordingly! We were even recognized during our consultation that they agreed with what we've presented which is very fulfilling.

Our group was tasked to make a video about administrative staff collaboration. The team communicated mainly through messenger and zoom. Announcements such as deadlines and time for formal meetings were announced via messenger while the proper planning and delegation of tasks were all discussed via zoom. We decided to split the group into 5 sub-groups (script writers, actors, visual designers, and video editors) to be more efficient and to maximize each other's strengths.

Everything ran smoothly. During the first meeting, the group set goals to accomplish the video and then set deadlines for each sub-group. This was a great idea for it will allowed clarity to all the members and establish what is expected from each one of us. The second meeting was for the script writers. They wrote a comprehensive script which included everything from the scenes in detail, actors assigned, color palete & outfit suggestion, camera angles, and everything that you could possibly need. This was great because it enumerated what the other sub-groups needed to do. In addition to this, it really guided the video editors and made their job a little bit easier. After that, the actors & visual designers' output were compiled. The things they've submitted really captured what we, the script writers were envisioning! It was the passed to the video editors who brought it all to life! It all went well, deadlines were met and we were able to pass something that we are really proud of.

The only thing that I guess we need to improve on is being complete during meetings. However, this was really understandable because we are from different courses and some of us has jobs outside school. We tried to overcome this by writing down in our google docs everything so that even those who wasn't able to attend is able to keep track of where we were.

We are required to reflect in practice in order to provide the best possible service for our patients. Reflecting allows us to correct, improve, and establish awareness regarding what we do as healthcare professionals and it is essential not only for our patients, but also for us to grow and progress as an individual and as a profession. Skills needed to reflect on practice include self-awareness in order to know where you stand, critical thinking to find out what needs to be improved and what needs to be corrected, and initiative/action in order to make the appropriate changes that will help improve the current situation.

My favorite and the one that I relate to the most is Gibb’s Reflective Cycle, especially now exam week is coming. I have been doing this unknowingly for the past year especially during practical exams where stress levels are through the roof! It helps me digest what I’ve been through and use my experience for the better even if I did or did not do very well. I usually write down what happened during the pracs and pour all of my thoughts and feelings into paper. Then at the end, I rationalize what happened thinking that my experience and their feedback would help me do better the next time around. I find this useful, not only for alleviating my anxiousness, but also help me reflect on what I can do better next time. By doing this and being aware, I would be a better physical therapist since I try to learn from my experience and apply criticisms, may it be bad or good, in order to provide the best level of care for my patients.

Before doing our PLA3, we first met as group to talk about what should we do about our PLA3. Different ideas were brought up and it was seen that everyone is combining their thoughts and concepts. Roles were distributed well according to our capabilities and everyone agreed on what we should do because communication allowed our group to be more efficient and creative. Internal deadlines were also set for each roles in the team for everyone to work efficiently and effectively.

Our team was able to work well with each other. I was an editor for our team and I realized that our members have unique and different ideas just by listening to their thoughts. There is trust between our members because we know that each and everyone of us will be able to do our roles well in the team. The script was made well, the actors were amazing in portraying their roles and the video was made creatively well by the editors.

As a result, the output of our video was amazingly done because each and everyone of team was part in the process of making that video.

When I was in Junior High, our section was tasked to create a design for our room for a National Flag event in our school. Different ideas and concepts were brought up and too many cooks were spoiling the broth. My role was I was one of the designers for our team and one of my task was making the design that was assigned to our section as well as assigning those who joined our designer and props team specific task on what to do. At first, planning and brainstorming ideas was a bit hard because a lot of us have different opinions on what we should do. Eventually it was resolved by voting and combining our ideas into a whole new concept. But another problem arise because some of the members of the designer and props team were not cooperating and doing their task. Eventually, we gathered our team and talked sincerely about what our goal was, why we want to achieve it, what should we improve on and we talked about our differences. After that, everyone began helping one another, respect was earned by each and everyone and we won first place on the event. Our section became much closer after that event.

The sub competency that I think would be applicable is “Interprofessional collaboration must be based on mutual respect and trust to be effective”. At first, all of us have different perspectives and ideas but in the end, we all had one common goal. We respected one another and with that, working became much easier. Everyone’s opinions were heard and we came with an agreement on how we should work together to be more efficient.

In junior high school, I was part of our theater organization and during those times I am both a performer and a production manager. There was this school play and I was assigned as the production manager which means that I am responsible for the division of tasks, choosing of performers and backstage staff, and down to every detail such as the costumes and the props. I remember that we had a conflict during the execution stage since some of my staff had contradicting opinions. It was really hard at first to find a solution because both sides had good reasons as to why we have to implement certain changes but as a production manager and the head of the team, I have to come up with a solution that will benefit both sides. I went and talk to both of them and gave them my take on the matter at hand and they both set aside their differences and accepted my suggestion. The sub-competencies that are applicable in this situation are trust and cooperation among the team. Because we trust each and everyone in our team, it is easier to build common ground with one another since our goal is to make our play a success and in order to achieve it, we have to work together as one.

It is taking our experiences as a starting point for our learning and developing our practice that can also help others grow. It can help improve the quality of our performance and we would know what our strengths and weaknesses are. The skills that are needed for reflecting on practice are being open-minded, critically aware, self awareness, ability to learn from experiences and ability to create own knowledge.

My favorite model was the Gibbs’ reflective cycle, when there is a scenario wherein a problem has arise from my future practice, I could first describe what actually happened during the appointments with the patient. Then I would identify each thoughts and feelings about the experience. Next, I would evaluate each experience, what worked and what went wrong during the appointments. Focus more on the positive and negative aspects of the situation. After this, I will analyze and extract meaning and sense from what happened. Then the I could make conclusions about what happened. I would summarize learnings and highlight what changes could improve the outcome in the future. Lastly, there is a need for an action plan. I should plan ahead what would I do differently or similarly to a related situation in the future. It could also help me on how to act with regards to this type of situation. With this model, it can help prevent problems to arise and working will be done efficiently and effectively.

1. Why should we reflect on practice? What skills are needed to reflect on practice?

Reflecting on practice allows us to learn and grow as a person, and as a healthcare professional. This will provide learnings we can apply in our daily life and in our career as future healthcare workers. Reflecting provides us a space where we can think deeply, and allows us to evaluate and continually hone ourselves to become the better version of ourselves. One of the essential skills required to reflect on one's practice is self-awareness. Being aware of one's self is where reflection starts, as this allows us to evaluate and assess ourselves. Other skills that are also essential in reflection is critical thinking, open-mindedness, and the ability to construct professional knowledge.

2. What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? How can you apply this model in your future practice?

The model of reflective practice that I align to the most is Kolb's Learning from experience. This applies to my future practice because internship is only just a year away, and this involves the application of the theoretical knowledge that I have learned inside the university. Through the internship program, various experiences will be accumulated, and from these experiences, there will be learnings that cannot be found in a classroom setting. This will help me grow further as an aspiring physical therapist and physician.

1. Why should we reflect on practice? What skills are needed to reflect on practice?

We often reflect after making a mistake in order to avoid repeating it in the future. By reflecting, we are able to analyze the situation so we could be aware on which part we did wrong. Additionally, it aid us in striving for excellence and be updated in the latest trends relating our profession for the benefit of our clients. As someone working in the science field, where everything is changing and evolving everyday, the art of practice is crucial to properly assist our clients with their needs. With that being said, the skills that are essential to reflect on practice are self-awareness, critical thinking and analysis, attentive and observant, and to be able to fuse new trends to the old effective strategies in order to come up with better techniques and solution.

2. What's your favorite model of reflective practice? How can you apply this model in your future practice?

The model that struck me the most is the Conscious Competence Learning Model as it is simple and easy to understand. The way on how good the flow of the progress is interesting as it ends on being competent, of course with the combination of discipline and effort. As a future professional in my field, this model can be applicable to help me grow as a better individual, personally and professionally. One thing for sure is that at the early part of my career, I would be doubting the decisions I will be making and won't be confident enough. With the online school setting and the pandemic, I am definitely on the "unconscious incompetence" stage as my experiences are lacking. There are things I can learn with class and with experiencing it first-hand, which is impossible in this time. Nonetheless, though this seems unclear and hard, I know that this is not the end and only the start. With proper discipline and dedication, I will eventually reach the reflective competence stage.

What?
For this PLA, we are tasked to create a video with the admin as our audience. To be organized and have our specific roles, our group was divided into teams of writers, editors, design, and actors. After choosing our roles, I became one of the actors for this activity. After the initial meeting with the group, we then started to do our role, starting with the writers. When they finished the script, we held another meeting so the writers can properly explain our roles and how to do the certain segment. Then, we actors were given a couple of days to shoot our parts, together with the design team (as they make the designs need for the video). And finally, the editors are also given a couple of days to finish the video edit, giving us 2 days allowance before the deadline.

So what?
By conducting meetings and having teams, we are able to smoothly do the activity while ensuring a proper progress to create the output. Through this, I realized how important clear communication is among team members. Since we each have our roles, we avoided miscommunication and overstepping of roles, as well as conflicts that could hinder our progress. Constant communication especially in working in a team or group should be constant in order to produce successful outcomes.

Now what?
Communication, open communication in particular, among team members should be emphasized. We successfully did our parts while being diligent and following our internal schedules because it would have caused delays if one of us failed to meet the deadline. And if one of us is unsure of what to do, the team is willing to explain and help the member understand, which increases our trust and reliability with each other. We should continue doing this type of communication and improve it if possible in the future.

It was last academic year during our practical exams in one of the major OT subjects. The group of three members was randomly picked the same day as the exams, so we had little time to prepare. The practical exam was case based wherein we have to act as the therapist, assistant therapist, and client respectively to provide and perform necessary evaluation and intervention strategies for the case given. After the was given, we had 30 mins to prepare for the presentation. I was assigned to be the therapist, the one assigned to be the client was not present during the preparation and came when there was only 5 mins left to prepare. We tried to contact the person multiple times but there was no reply. We did not bother as much anymore since we have to prioritize in planning for the case presentation. When the assigned client came to the meeting, we immediately told him what he needs to do during the presentation. We asked him if he understood the case and his tasks, and he said yes. However, during the presentation he changed some of the contents and procedures without our approval which caused panic. As the therapist, I redirected the simulated therapy session to what was originally planned to avoid further misunderstandings since our grades in the exams will be shared. After the presentation, we said to the late member if it is alright to raise what happened to the professors since it was really unfair for us who prepared and exerted effort in the presentation. He agreed to it as he acknowledged his mistakes and shortcomings. The person really did not have the chance to explain why the incident happened since we still had an output to pass that day.

The sub-competency applicable to the situation is develop a trusting relationship with patients, families, and other team members. I believe that we could still have communicated with that member so that we understood to why the incident happened.

Describe the time when you have been part of a team in which differences in opinions developed about how the work was assigned or completed.

Back when I was in Junior high school, we had our Kpop Jpop competition which then became a batch competition after a group was selected from each class. Our group won in the classroom elimination. We were given more than a month to practice for our choreography. Despite being a student-athlete at that time, I tried to manage my time so I can attend both my dance practice and swimming practice. Although it was hard, I manage to get through and fulfill my roles, though there are times when I have to sacrifice one due to various reasons. In our team, there are 3 of us who are student-athletes which caused a conflict with our practice time as our training times do not match. It even reached the point where our leader got mad because the other members slacked off as our dance practices are mostly short and not productive. But since we are eager to win, we asked our professor if she could lend her time for us to practice which she agreed on, giving us enough time to complete our choreography and to practice. And as a result, we are able to place 1st runner up. Regardless of the problems we encountered that time, we are still able to produce a successful outcome. This is mainly because of the trust we had with each other and the communication we are able to fix that led us to that victory.

What skills are needed to reflect on practice?
Reflective practice is important as this allows us to better understand ourselves. Through self-reflection, we will be able to recognize our strengths & weaknesses, thus allowing us to acknowledge what aspects of ourselves are needed to be improved. This could also be a guide for us, future healthcare providers to improve the quality of care given to our patients.

The skills needed in reflective practice are introspections skills that would allow us to look back from our actions and learn from them, critical analysis, evaluation & intervention skills.

2. What is your favorite model of reflective practice? How can you apply this model in your future practice?
My favorite model of reflective practice is Gibb's Reflective Cycle as this shows how one can reflect, learn, and improve based on a particular situation that already happened. As a future Physical Therapist, this can be applied when unexpected situations occur in the clinic. First, I would describe what happened and I would recognize my feelings and emotions about the situation. Next, I would try to look at both the good side and bad side of the situation. Then, I would analyze what learning could I get from the situation, and from there, I would make conclusions about what could be improved in order to lessen the occurrence of such situations in the future.

What skills are needed to reflect on practice?

Reflective practice since it is integral for our growth and developmental as a professional and individual. It enables us to assess our actions and create attainable solutions in addressing our mistakes. The rehabilitation field requires us to constantly update our skills and knowledge to heed in the rapid advancement of health sciences and technologies. This means that reflective practice helps us with appropriate decision-making and improved self-awareness necessary for efficient client-centered practice The skills needed to reflect on practice are critical thinking, self-awareness, active listener, evaluate the situation, and commitment to apply reflections into concrete actions.

2. What’s your favorite model of reflective practice? Now what? reflection model. I first encountered this model back in first year since it was often used by one of our professors. Personally, this model is simple to adapt since the what question, allows me to identify what has transpired and what do I need to reflect on. The so what question, allows me to look deeply unto what are the positives and negatives of the problem or situation. The now what question, enables me to create concrete plans of action regarding to the factors I have identified. With this model, I can assure that my reflections are put into application which can contribute to my growth and development as a professional.

The team I recall that I got involved in was in my professional course groupings wherein there are different opinions on how we make activities for our treatment plan. During brainstorming, each member has its own ideas and they really target specific skills. Some would defend their own ideas to be better on top of other, but we should only come up with one best output.

My role is in making intervention plan and usually we are composed of 2-3 members in this particular subgroup. It is expected that there will be a variety of ideas laid out during discussion. There are instances wherein one would defend one's own idea and disregard the ideas of others. To prevent conflicts among the subgroup, I make sure that each ideas were considered and find a way on how we can integrate it and add on final refinements to make the activity better. A specific sub-competency that I think is applicable to the situation is "developing a trust relationship with patients, families, and other team members." The subgroup will work efficiently if one listens and understands one's idea well. Building trust among the team will also foster cooperation for one won't hesitate contributing if the team listens to it. The team would then do its best to integrate all ideas and come up one best plan for the client. With this, the subgroup would have an efficient and quality output.

Why should we reflect on practice? What skills are needed to reflect on practice?
We should reflect on practice because we want to prevent applying the same techniques and approaches as we get used to the practice considering that our field is evolving. It also helps us reflect on our mistakes and prevent them form recurring in the future. Moreover, reflecting helps us generate new ideas and our creative side is stimulated. The skills needed to reflect on practice include self-awareness, description, critical analysis, synthesis, evaluation and action.

What is your favorite model on reflective practice? I can say that it has worked well with me. In my future practice, this model would really be useful since I am knowledgeable with this one. In application to my practice, I am not limited to using it on cases to where I have gone wrong but also to actions that I am going to take in. It could be applicable when making treatment plans wherein reflecting could help me double check my work to make sure that i am working efficiently.

Back in junior high school, we had a poster-making competition during Nutrition Month. Instead of having individual competitors, the contest was done by a group of 3. We only have one hour to come up with a good poster. During the first 20 mins of the competition, our group was able to layout the drawing. We were confident that we would be able to finish on time because we only have to color the poster and then we're done. However during the last 30 mins, one of my groupmates accidentally smudged the color right on the center of the drawing. Because it really ruined the poster, I told them that we should repeat the drawing. My groupmates were hesitant since there is a chance that we will run out of time if we redo everything. However, I really insisted that we should redo it since the poster got really messy. I explained to them that we would have little chance to win if we continue to use that drawing. I respectfully asked them to consider my decision since I really want us to win that competition. Thankfully, we were able to finish the poster on time, and we won 2nd place. The sub-competencies applicable to this situation are respect, trust, and cooperation. It is important to respect and trust the opinions of your members even though they are not always on your side because sometimes, it is what would help to achieve the goal of the team. Cooperation is also important as a collaboration between members allows work to be easier to accomplish.

1.) Reflective practice is important so that we can fully assess how the interventions were given. As healthcare professionals, it is important to apply the reflective practice in order for us to know if each and every one of us were able to fulfill the tasks given to us. This also provides a way to do appropriate changes in how we approach a certain treatment so that we can tailor the interventions based on the patient's needs. It develops our critical thinking and careful planning skills which is vital when we go to our clinical practice.

2.) My favorite model out of all the ones given would be Gibb's Reflective cycle because of how comprehensive the steps are in determining and reflecting different actions that you have done. In this cycle, we first describe what happened then we further delve into how we feel when faced with a certain situation and assess what would be certain actions or interventions that would be good or bad for the patients. What makes this model better is that it has an action plan which is helpful since it focuses on what we can do if similar scenarios would arise in the future.
