As a social worker Irena Sendler stood up for humanitarian rights. While Irene attended school Jews and non Jews were not allowed to sit together. Irene challenged these rules and as a result was suspended for a year. She was eventually allowed to finish school but she is a great example of what fighting for a cause represents. She risked her life every single day by smuggling Jewish children out. It was heroic of her that despite the consequences she still stood up to the oppressive system. (Kroll, 2009).
As social workers it is our job to educate ourselves and help enact positive change against unequal practices.
