A suicide threat is a verbal or nonverbal communication that the individual intends to harm him- or her- self with the intention to die but has not acted on the threat (Constable, Massat, Kelly, p. 455).

A suicide attempt is a potentially self-injurious behavior for which there is evidence that the person probably intended to kill him- or her- self. A suicide attempt may result in death, injuries, or no injuries (Constable et al., p. 455). 

Self harm refers to an individual's acts that result in physical harm, but not death.
