When we say this we ask God to forgive us of our sins. We then promise to forgive others of their sins against us.

We put the promise made in the Lord's Prayer into action with the Sign of Peace. The deacon or priest invites us to share the sign of Christ's peace with one another. You can show this through a handshake, hug, kiss, or other gesture. As we do this action we say "peace be with you."

During the Fraction of the Bread, the priest or deacon breaks the consecrated bread into smaller pieces so it can be shared. We also sing a litany to Jesus, the Lamb of God. The cantor or choir addresses Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away our sins. We respond, "Have mercy on us." As the priest finishes breaking the consecrated bread, we say, "Grant us peace."

Communion

Communion is the highest point of the Eucharist. It is the main reason we come to mass and it gives us strength throughout the week. Communion is eating and drinking with the One who knows everything about us and loves us no matter what. When we receive Christ, our connection with the church is also strengthened. When we come forward and the minister of Holy Communion says, "Body of Christ." and "Blood of Christ." we say "Amen," that is "Yes let it be so." When we eat His body and drink His blood we are completely with Christ and his mission. After everyone has shared communion we say a silent prayer giving thanks for the Eucharist. We then end the Communion Rite by praying that the Communion we have just shared will change our lives.
