The Indian Act was a way to change the diversity between the government and the first nation peoples, so the country could become one whole. The government however didn't consider the first nations and took their land and culture. The first nations were forced to live on their tiny "reserved" land that could be taken at any moment by the government. To this day the Indian act is still active and the first nations people do not get all the rights of a "true Canadian".

To follow up on my last point, through the eyes of a first nations person I wouldn't feel part of the Canadian community.
I would feel like the others who opinion didn't have an affect. Although i would legally have the right of speech, I wouldn't feel listened to.

On what Geoff said about First nations being treated like they aren't human. I agree with this for when you talk about a first nation you see them as not apart of our civilization yet. Like they are growing up, not yet ready to join the civilization before us.

The Indian act made the First Nation can't live anywhere and they can't speak their own language. Also the First Nations Peoples can't make their own decisions themselves. The First Nation are like "wards" to the government. Also whenever they need something or need to go outside from the reserve they still need permission. That is honestly not fair, because you don't have any freedom or rights for their privacy. For example like us, students we still can go to the washroom whenever we want, but for them they need to ask for permission

I think the Indian Act is not fair AT ALL! They don't let the First Nations people speak their own native language, they only could live in the reserve, other than that, they took away their cultures as well! The Indian Act is basically controlling the First Nations people. Also, the Indian Act treats all the adults like wards. That is just unfair! You also need permission from the Indian Agent and you need to state why are you leaving the reserve. Also, you need permission from the Indian Agent to sell stuff. It's NOT FAIR! You're basically like a child asking for permission to go outside, or buy anything, etc.

i think that the Indian Act is not fair to the First Nations Peoples because they are still humans like us. The Indian Act affected the First Nations by being able to take over the First Nations land, house and territory whenever they want. The Indian Act affects the First Nations by if you went to a university then you aren't a first nation anymore. If you go of reserves for five years then you aren't a first nation. It is also unfair because before is you want to leave the reserve you have to have to ask the agent. If you want to go buy food or go do basically everything they have to ask the agent.

The Indian act is unfair to First Nations peoples and it should not still exist. I think that the First Nations people should be given back to them. The Indian Act was
supposed to turn First Nations peoples into everyone else. they did this by making them wear the same clothes, saying they could not do any traditional activities, and saying they must follow all the governments laws. The government also invented Residential Schools. A Residential School is a school for First Nations children. The government came and took the children away without asking and put them in these schools. In the schools, the children were forced to learn english, write it, and read it. They were also beaten badly. This caused the children to lose contact with their families and forget their language. The purpose of these schools was to "civilize" The First Nations people.

I think the Indian act is very offended to peoples and random, like even though you have the human right, but they just ignore this. Now even if the law is been remove, but the governance are still trapping the Indigenous people with it, so if you need to go to the doctor you have to ask the governance too. And if the indigenous people go to collage you will no longer be a indigenous. And before, if you want to go to buy a new shoes you need to ask for permit to go, and kids are been changed from the inside to the outside, they can't talk to her/his parent and friend,

The goal of the government was to "civilize" the First Nation to make all of the First Nation all like the , and to define who was an First Nation. It was mostly made to strip the First Nation from their religion. The Indian act allowed people to take their land that they owned. My opinion is that, the Indian act is wrong and that it should not still be active. What have the First Nation's done to them?

They basically took over the First Nation's lives. How did it even start? It's just so awful to take everything away from First Nations people. The First Nations were so respectful to everyone. Plus, where on earth did 'human rights' go? People should be able to do whatever their culture allows them......right or wrong?

Most children are "wards" ( a ward is a child under adult care) children are wards when their under the care of an adult but if you're First Nation, all children and adults would be under the care of the government and not their families. First Nations were pushed to a small piece of land and if you went of the land it would be considered an federal offense. a

I think the Indian act is very unfair to the First Nations people. It affected many First Nations lives, they took over and forced them to do horrible things. The Indian act took over the First Nations land, they are horrible to the people that lived there. I wonder why the Indian act started, it is cruel to not follow your culture. Why didn't the First Nations people stand up for themselves? Who started the Indian act anyways and why did it start? How and why?

I think that the Indian act is unfair to the First Nations. It affected them in many ways including taking away their land, forbidding them have the freedom of speaking their own language, taking away their culture, making First Nations live on reserves, and forced them to do things. They couldn't do lots of things without the government's permission. Who started the Indian act?
