I have chose Art because it is the area I feel least confident incorporating meaningfully into my instruction. While I fully understand the value of creativity and student expression, I often find myself defaulting to surface-level activities like coloring or decorating, rather than truly integrating artistic thinking into the learning process. I’m still learning how to go beyond aesthetics and use art as a tool for deeper understanding, reflection, and communication across subjects. My goal is to explore ways to make art purposeful within my lessons

What should art within STEAM lessons look like?

Prior to this course, my idea was adding a coloring page to a science lesson or drawing a picture at the conclusion of the lesson based on what students have learned. After driving into the research on the importance of art integration, I believe that in a 2nd grade classroom, the "A" in STEAM might take the form of students designing, illustrating, building, performing, or storytelling to enhance their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.
