Rex would do anything for his kids, he promised them that he would build the prospector and find gold. He instead was an alcoholic who would go from job to job, going nowhere and taking his family nowhere as well.

She thought it was fun, and the adventure was amazing. Along the way, she had to be sent to the hospital, and her cat got thrown out of the car by her father. I think that’s when Jeannette started figuring out the reality of everything around her. After growing up, she knew that she needed to get out of there and saw the reality of the life she was living.

Almost the same thing happened with Jeannette and her uncle, and all that her mother said to her was, " Poor Uncle Stanley is so lonely."

They dug a giant hole to get started on it but then that hole was used for something way different then they had thought. Rex and Rose Mary started using it to put their garbage in it and said it was just for a little while until they would get started, but they never started on the Glass Castle.
