         <description><![CDATA[<ul><li>Upper- and middle-class white women turned to hospitals for delivery of their babies due to the growing public acceptance of hospitals.</li><li>Poor urban European immigrants continued to deliver babies at home and/or turned to inexperienced general practitioners.</li><li>In rural areas of Mississippi, Alabama, and North Carolina, a majority of the population was Black and the infant mortality was double what it was for Whites.&nbsp;</li><li>Poor white women in remote mountain areas relied on untrained "Granny midwives" to deliver their babies.&nbsp;</li></ul><div>(Keeling, et al., 2018)<br><br></div>]]></description>
