The idea has been justified to Bridget by saying this is her life purpose now, to help humanity survive.

Bridget was a ballet dancer and the stage was her home until one unfortunate fall led both her legs to be irreparably damaged and her face horribly disfigured. She had lost it all, no longer was she the image of perfection but she had lost the love of the people  leading her to spiral out of control and succumb into a state of darkness. With all hope lost  and is everlasting pain both physically and mentally she chose to end her life. 

Devastated by her choice to end her life, her grief stricken husband decided this was not how he wanted people to remember Bridget, leading him to seek out people who promised to bring her memory back. Even if that meant giving every last inch of who she was to achieve that. 

Even though this took decades, they finally reached success in 2080. At first Bridget fell in love with her new body and face albeit cold and metallic that did not stop her from feeling in constant bliss. Society rejoiced in her return But this feeling started to die realising that the movements were not the same when she danced. She did not feel completely whole but she did not know why.
