My name is Ethan S. Benson I am coming from my home country of Sweden. At the age of two my parents were brutally murdered and robbed for what little pocket change they had on them. From then on I was sent to live and be raised by my Aunt. Her name Holly Wells but it was strictly Aunt Holly for me. Sadly 3 nights after my sixteen birthday my Aunt died of unknown and unnatural causes. I was going through her stuff to find her will and I come across all these letter from someone names Alfred Benson. After piecing all the information together I had a long lost uncle who lived in America. That following Tuesday I packed it all up, everything I could. The ship was named the Ella Rose and she was very crowded. I had worked on a small fishing vessel so I thought I would have my sea legs but I really didn’t. The rocking and rolling was terrible everyone was getting sick but I’m glad it’s over and I’m crushing into New York Harbor on my way to America. We first had to stop by Ellis Island to be processed. I’ve never seen such a large mass of people before. It took hours to get through the system. I’m finally here at the line to exchange what little money I have left for United States currency. It’s definitely not much but I have enough to buy my basic needs. Tomorrow I will wake up and find my relative but for now I found a house to sleep in for the night. And from now on I am a American citizen.

My name is Patrick Henceforth and I'm 5 years old. Me and my two parents and one grandparent decided to move to America. We come across the Ocean it this boat called the Rockford’s Pleasure. We come over and there is this huge statue of a green lady. As we walk into this place called Ellis Island something happens with Grandma. She isn't allowed through the last checkpoint. They say she's sick. I and my family said for weeks because we can't leave her. Next thing I knew it was Christmas Eve. This really nice, friendly-looking man is going around giving out presents. I opened mine it was a wooden carving of the Statue of Liberty that this man widdled and painted. That day was 19 years ago. And while the paint is starting to fade it is still to this day one of my most prized possessions.

We are the Bates Family. It consists of me, my mother, my father, my wife and our newborn son. We are migrating from Scotland for better opportunities for my son. We take the ride over. As we get to Ellis Island the view of the Statue of Liberty was slightly foggy but it was absolutely breathtaking. We get onto the island and go through all the necessary tests to become citizens. It was a miracle that all of our family made it through. To be completely honest I didn't think it was going to happen so I brought extra money just in case someone had to take a ride back to Scotland. But now the whole family is sitting here waiting for the next shuttle into New York City. I can't stop looking at my family especially my beautiful wife they are all just so happy. All of our hearts explode whenever we step onto this boat. We all can't wait to see what types of surprises awaits us on the other side.
