         <title>The Teaching and Learning Environment</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In my observation, I was in two high school classrooms. This was Mr. Rain's World Geography class and Ms. Wilson's American History class. I found that there was a contrast to the way each teacher conducted their lecture. Mr. Rain seemed to lean towards student leadership in the classroom, as he had students present the information to the rest of the class. While Ms. Wilson employed a more classical Socratic method with her at the front of the class lecturing and asking students questions. I feel that this fit the curriculum that each class entailed as geography requires the understanding of maps while history is more conceptual.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Student-Teacher and Student-Student Interactions</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In both settings, it seemed that the student-teacher interactions were relatively informal compared to younger grades. At high school age (these students were Sophomores and Juniors) the students were mature enough to have adult conversations with each other and with their teacher while remaining professional. This really showed that Mr. Rain and Ms. Wilson were able to establish a rapport with their students and this assisted in their ability to relate to them. A close relationship with their students allowed for a more productive and effective classroom, from what I observed.</div>]]></description>

         <title>School Atmosphere</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The school was set up much like the high school that I went to (Derby), with the commons at the center of the school with all of the hallways branching off the center. I feel that this layout creates an inviting and easy to navigate environment. This layout also allows the music from the band room to softly carry throughout the whole school, which creates a nice ambiance in the halls. In addition, student art that is made in EHS' various art classes is proudly displayed throughout the school. I don't believe I walked through a single hall in the school that did not have some sort of presence of art.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Interesting Experiences</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In Ms. Wilson's American History class, I took note of her unique classroom layout. She used long narrow tables (as the rest of the school did) and lined them in a C-shaped formation. I feel that this layout really maximized the amount of lecture space she had and it allowed her to move around freely among the students without impeding anyone's view of the board. The other interesting experience that I had was regarding the interviews I did with school psychs (this will be covered in the interview section of my reflection).</div>]]></description>

         <title>School Psych Interviews</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As a part of my observation, I interviewed two school psychs (one who works at an elementary school and another who works at a high school). I gained significant insight into the profession and how they differ when comparing work in an elementary school and a middle school. The main difference between the professions was the level of direct student involvement in developing an IEP. In elementary school, it is difficult for a psych to get a student to properly share their thoughts and opinions regarding their education environment. In high school however, students are knowledgeable enough to understand the purpose of an IEP and the basic process of developing one, which adds the dynamic of student involvement in development. Generally speaking, my interviews definitely drew me closer to the profession and I can not wait to start on my schooling to get their. In addition, I feel that working in a high school as a psych would be my first choice but I would be open to any level of education.</div>]]></description>
