During the Mediterranean world, the Roman Empire was the dominant ruler of Europe. Most towns were ruled by them as they conquered the previous owner through their large armies. They ruled most Europe for 507 years until the downfall of the Romans. During this time, some key languages included Greek, Latin, Aramaic, and Hebrew. However, written communication was common for high-class people to show wealth and status. They would send letters in order to show that they could spend their money on services others could not afford. People and goods were transported by giant wheels holding carts of things. Prisoners and slaves carried these wheels as punishment or a job. Some cultural and ethnic groups of the time included; Jews, Hebrews, Galileans, Christians, Corinthians and Romans. Main regions of the country; Jerusalem, Galilei, Rome, Macedonia, Phrygia and Corinth.

Post 2- The Conversion of Saul

Saul becoming a Christian was of great significance because of his past actions. Paul was raised a strict Jew and received an education unlike many people of the time. In Acts 21: 37- 22:21, we hear about Paul’s conversion which recounts his calling to become a Christian. Paul explains that he saw a blinding light, Jesus then told him to go see a man named Ananias who would cure his blindness and baptise him. Therefore it was so profound that Saul became a Christian because as a Jew, he previously persecuted Christians. When he first made his conversion, people believed that he was trying to trick them in order to round them all up. However, over time, he proved himself a loyal follower of God.

During Paul’s first journey, he visited a total of nine communities where he preached God’s word. He first started his missionary journey in Seleucia where he prepares to sail to the next city. Then he visited Salamis where he stood outside a synagogue and preached the word of God (Acts 13:5). Next, he continued traveling south-west of the island until he arrived into Paphos where he became the leader of his missionary group. Travelling across the Mediterranean Sea to Perga, Antioch, and Iconium, this is where he converted many Jews and Gentiles into Christians. Next he visited Lystra, here he converted much more people to Christianity, and in doing so they proclaimed him a God. He was then found by some persecutors, stoned and left for dead. However when all the disciples were gathering around him, he simply stood up and continued on his way to Derbe. After preaching there, he followed his path returning to all the towns he previously went through, appointing priests in every community. On his first journey, it was apparent that he reached out to many people and help them to see the light of God.

Paul’s letters were of great significance to the Bible. Paul wrote these letters to distant churches in order to inform them of what was happening to him. He wrote in order to respond to what he has experienced as well as what was happening around him. Paul wrote many letters that contained profound messages that are praised even today. He tells churches to not lose faith or hope in God because the Lord will always be with you. Paul also tells people that he had met during his travels to preach the word of God and help build the Lords kingdom, "He has given up his life so we all can live" says Paul.

Post 5- Identify and explain a cultural challenge of St Paul that is revealed in one of his epistles

In the passage of Galatians, one of the cultural challenges of the time was the issue of Jewish Traditions. It was known that once a boy was born into a Jewish family, he must be circumcised otherwise they will not be permitted to follow the Jewish faith. When Paul started preaching he told community members that if they joined the Christian faith their children would not have to be circumcised. This put pressure on members of the Jewish to convert over to Christian faith.

Post 6- Interpret and apply on of Paul's messages for us today.

Galatians 3: 26–4:7 is one of St Paul’s epistles that contains a very important message. It tells us, “There is no longer Jew or Greeks, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” – Galatians 3: 28. I believe that this message is very important for us today because there is so much conflict in the world. To resolve these issues we need to stop discriminating and let go of all the bad generalizations that we have about people. We need to understand that God see’s us as equals that are apart of his Kingdom. This bible passage captures what our mindsets should be like, to unite people instead of discriminating genders, faiths, equality, races etc.
