Depending on whether the person tolerates tactile activities, something like offering materials for a hand massage, or massage tools. With olfactory options added in (e.g. scents from creams), this could be calming and promote a less charged atmosphere.

Alternatively, you could offer something to focus on together (e.g. reading to the patient, or watching something calming with them that they would enjoy).

For the children, a sensory corner (e.g. a seascape, or something else calming) with sensory toys, tactile trays, and other activities for fidgeting with or looking at could be an option.
