The method in which substances in a mixture can be separated by just picking them out with the help of hand from the mixture is known as handpicking method. It is one of the various methods which are carried out in dry conditions. The substances which are separated with the help of this method can be useful product or the impurities which need to be removed or both the substances which are separated can be useful products.

This method is useful only when the substance which needs to be separated is in small quantity.

For example: In our house, our mother separates stones and insects from rice simply by hand.

How it works:
Separating immiscible liquids is done simply using a separating funnel. The two liquids are put into the funnel and are left for a short time to settle out and form two layers. The tap of the funnel is opened and the bottom liquid is allowed to run. The two liquids are now separate.

Two different chemical entities can be separated based on their densities, assuming that the densities of the two items are different enough from one another. Solids and liquids (or solids and solids) can easily be separated from each other by simple filtration. the mixture is passed through some type of filter, either filter paper or a type of sieve. The solid is collected on the filter surface and the liquid simply passes through. A denser, thicker liquid can be aided through the use of vacuum pressure to pass it through the filter.
