As the national director of the franchise, it is my responsibility to ensure that the competition promotes diversity, inclusivity, and equality. All individuals should have the opportunity to showcase their talents, intelligence, and beauty, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Excluding LGBTQ+ applicants would go against these values and would be discriminatory. I would also like to add a short description from the SOGIE bill which is, "The bill seeks to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression." 

Furthermore, allowing LGBTQ+ applicants to compete would send a message of acceptance and support to the LGBTQ+ community, promoting equality and social progress. Anyhow, the main goal of the miss universe pageant is to advocate humanitarian issues and be a voice to affect positive change in the world. Not allowing the LGBTQ+ community would go against the main goal of the beauty pageant. 

Additionally, the only rules to the beauty pageant are the following (FROM RAPPLER):
  1. Age: Contestants must be at least 18 years old and no more than 28 years at the time.
  2. Nationality: Contestants must hold a valid passport of the Philippines
  3. Marital status: Contestants must be single, never been married, and have no children.
  4. Health: Contestants must be in good health and able to participate in physical activities and events.
  5. Criminal record: Contestants must have no criminal record or pending legal charges.
  6. Height: There is no specific height requirement.
  7. Language: Contestants should be proficient in the language used in the competition, which is usually English and it would be best if they spoke Filipino.

It doesn't state anything about restricting LGBTQ+ community members. In conclusion, I strongly believe that the Miss Universe Philippines franchise should allow LGBTQ+ applicants to compete in the pageant.

The allowance of LGBTQ+ may be a double edged sword, but I believe that we are all beautiful in our own ways, no matter who we are. Allowing them will help the LGBTQ+ community be recognized for being as beautiful as the people not in that community. 

Letting them in also provides more reason for other organizations and contests to allow LGBTQ+ as well. Our sexual preferences do not and should not hinder our strengths, however in this society they are not recognized. Allowing them in other activities and jobs can help apply their other strengths for good, and removes stigmas we might have against them. 

The conversations, ideas and thoughts said by them can make the people outside the LGBTQ+ community see the LGBTQ+ in a different perspective. They may have ideas that even we may have never even known or thought of. It could be not even favoring the LGBTQ+; just an idea that benefits everyone. 

Finally, it will help us respect the LGBTQ+ more by knowing that they are also human people who have their own opinion, and their own community to relate to each other. We have our own communities, and can have different opinions and beliefs, and we still respect them. Secondly, the criteria for the competition are based on the traditional definition of femininity, including physical appearance, grace, and poise. Transgender individuals who have undergone hormone replacement therapy or surgery may have altered physical features and may not fit the traditional definition of femininity. This could lead to confusion and controversy among judges and the public.


Lastly, instead of forcing inclusion into a competition that has been traditionally exclusive to biological females, a better solution would be to create a separate competition that caters to all genders. This would be more inclusive and provide a platform for individuals of all genders to showcase their talents and beauty without being discriminated against.


In conclusion, while I understand the importance of promoting equality and inclusivity, I believe that allowing LGBTQ+ members, including transgender individuals, to join the Miss Universe Philippines competition would be unfair and go against the traditional values of the competition. Instead, a more viable solution would be to create a competition that caters to all genders, promoting inclusivity without compromising the integrity of the Miss Universe competition.

Let's start with the LGBTQIA, Lesbian Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Asexual. Lesbians are women who are attracted to other women, Gays are men who are attracted to other men, Bisexuals are people who are attracted to males and females, Transgenders are people who identify as the opposite gender (eg. transgender males are male ; transgender females are female). Queer people are people who are questioning their sexual/gender identity and asexual people are people who do not have a romantic interest in anyone else. There are many more but going through all of them can literally make a whole thesis paper.
 
Now that we have defined the terms I think that I can now state that if a trans woman wants to join the Miss Universe competition then they should be allowed. You may be asking why transgender females specifically? well as stated before trans women are the members of the LGBT community who identify as women and therefore trans women are women. A gay person or bisexual man would probably not want to apply to miss Universe since miss Universe is a competition that is aimed towards women joining the competition.

A counterargument to this to my argument could be that having trans women join the Miss Universe will create an imbalance in the competition, perhaps an unfair advantage to women. but come on now even when trans women are allowed to join the competition they will be the ones who will be facing all the discrimination and hate. An example of this is as recent as the Miss Universe 2022-2023 competition that just happened, not a contestant but the owner of the Miss Universe organization herself. Just because certain fans candidates did not get in they were throwing hate from all directions at the owner of the Miss U organization and making fun of her voice saying "mas lalaki ka pa sa tito ko" or "para kang kambing". This is just one of the many examples of the struggles trans women, rather trans people in general, all the more is there a reason for us to accept them and help them uplift themselves. Some people even say that to be more inclusive then why not make a competition for themselves like miss trans or something, the problem with that is trans women are women so it's basically like creating another women's competition so it might as well let them join Miss Universe. 

In the scenario provided, there was a mention of religion being a factor that will prevent the decision of not letting members of the LGBT join pageants like Miss Universe. First of all the main evidence that the people who believe that their religion shuns Homosexuality is probably built on lies and mistranslations, a whole lot of misunderstandings. The Bible is a centuries-old book with numerous translations, versions, interpretations, etc. it's basically the same book between different religions just interpreted differently by the people. In recent years various scholars and so-called "bold" interpreters have been saying that homosexual acts aren't actually shunned by the bible it was just either added in like some plug-in by some homophobic people or a misunderstood text that was misused by the wrong people to have a press release that homosexuality is wrong and is a sin. Plus even if your religion shuns something or does not like it doesn't mean you should follow suit, yes I understand that religion is one's belief system of some sort but that doesn't mean that it should control you, your reasoning, your decisions, and or views. At the end of the day, it is up to you what to believe what right and wrong are—saying that, what truly is wrong about being homosexual? what is wrong with being different?

One more thing could be that it has been years, decades even that the Miss Universe Organization has been this way where not even one of the many years has a trans person ever been in the competition. That is because of the discrimination and nonacceptance of these individuals by their own homelands that lead them to not being able to represent themselves. Some could even say that it is tradition. Now I ask you are all traditions from decades, and centuries back still applied today? Of course, the answer is no because people grow, people evolve, and people learn. Things that might have applied to us a long time ago do not apply anymore today. What makes humans unique is our capability to grow, our capacity to adapt, and think for ourselves. Denying tradition is a part of growing and doing so will build upon a foundation for the future of new beliefs that are more updated and not based on the beliefs of people that died literally years and years ago.

At the end of the day, the goal of the Miss Universe organization as a whole is to uplift women but generally everyone around the world, (the universe rather). If someone doesn't agree with the fact that a transgender person should be prohibited from entering the competition then ask them why? because personally if that person answers something like, "they are not women" or "they will have an advantage" or "it's unfair" or "it's not natural" or "it's not right" you get the point then I fear they missed the point of the Miss Universe competition and do not actually care for its true purpose. The possible discrimination of trans people in this competition is not their fault but the fault of the people discriminating against them, let us not put the blame on them because they are doing nothing but be themselves. Possible discrimination for judging should not be blamed on the contestant but of course, the judge since it is their beliefs that lead them to discriminate against a possible trans contestant, why? is it the trans person's fault if the judges start discriminating against them?
