Laertes: Ophelia, Ophelia, you fool no one! I am here to talk to you seriously, not wasting my time talking to a wall. So, you are going to listen to me very carefully because you can trust me: what is being said here won’t be said at loud. For god sake, Ophelia, I’m your Brother!!! Let me protect you from the sharks that are trying to bring you down. Brotherhood is not the greatest value of the kingdom? 

Ophelia: I am ready to listen to what you have to say. 

Laertes: You cannot keep visiting Hamlet. 

Ophelia: Why? 

Laertes: Because the honour of our great family could be endangered. If you keep visiting Hamlet that regularly, even if it is totally innocent, there will be rumours about you, having sexual relations outside marriage. It would fatally damage our family property and honour. 

Ophelia: But I love him. Why? Why destiny is that unfair!

Laertes: if you do not do it for us, for me, for the family, do it for you: you perfectly know you virginity is the greatest asset you have. You keep telling me you feel oppressed by men. Use your power! As Francois de Bassompierre used to say: “the virginity is the greatest treasure of women”. A virgin and beautiful woman like you is a rare stone that can use her beauty to get whatever she wants, while a beautiful and sullied woman is considered as dishonoured and unwanted for the rest of her life.  In the world of women, virginity is the master key for freedom

Ophelia: But Hamlet will marry me. I’m sure about it: he really loves me. I don’t see the point not seeing him again. 

Laertes: Hamlet, our dear Hamlet is unpredictable: our romantic hero can be moved in the heat of passions, but also by the heat of rage. I hear that he could refuse your visits, pushing you away like a cunt. Is that what love really is? What is more, he is the immediate successor of the king. Do I have to remind you that our family does not hold such a rank in the hierarchy? Not to mention that we could be dishonoured forever, if you cannot stay virgin until your marriage. 

Ophelia: Thank you for reminding me my duties. I will do everything I can to let the honours of the family untouched.
