Teaching the standards is making sure the requirements are met. Teaching to the test is making sure the kids have the answers.

•The difference between teaching to the standards and teaching to a test is that the students are learning and mastering certain skills rather than being focussed on short-term memorization/learning.
•You consider your standards at the beginning of you lesson planning so that you can backwards plan with the end in mind. Having the standards in mind will allow you to find various ways to teach a subject.
