It was around 8:30 when I arrived at the park. I was with two of my friends. There was lots of buzz in the city, many people walking around, cars driving through, delivery bikes passing by, lots of music. The park itself was quieter, but not silent.

A. What made Madison Square Park distinct from other spaces is that it gives a different vibe in the day time vs the night. During the day, it seems like just another part of the city, where everybody is there, either listening to music, walking their dog, or eating lunch, but at night, it seems like it's own distinct spot that's separate from everywhere else, feeling more private and quieter. What's interesting is that even though this space is completely surrounded by very busy streets and lots of tall buildings, there's a sense of calmness when you step inside. I could still hear the buzz of the city, like the cars and faint music, but it was a lot less intense. The waterfall, along with the night lights, made it seem peaceful and felt like an escape from the heptic city, like a breath of fresh air. I had also gotten crumbl cookie before, so it was nice being able to enjoy a sweet treat in this park. There was definitely an implicit rule, which was to stay in your own lane and not be disruptive as this was a calmer environment. It is a public space, but people are expected to be respectful at all times. Madison Square Park is one of the oldest parts in New York, which has also been redesigned many times. You can tell that it is very cared for, since it is clean and organized.

B. This park is public, meaning anyone can come. However, this space isn't very welcoming of everyone. There is a lot of security in this space, and many people like the homeless are seen as outliers. This is mainly because the vibes of this park are more centered around people who are at least mild class, people that are polite, quiet, and walking dogs / eating meals. Additionally, the vibes of middle class people are further shown by the surrounding of nice apartments, office towers, and foods such as shake shack.

C. What I know about this park is what's visual, such as the plaques and art. What I don't really know is who is choosing what sculptures are put and how maintains it. If I wanted to learn more, I can find local archives and city park records.

Walking through Madison Square Park at night allowed me to think about things that don't ever really come to mind, like how this space and people are connected. According to Springgay and Truman, walking is a great way of learning as you can feel and experience any space with all your senses, and I was able to really grasp this concept while on my walk. There was cold air, dim lights, and faint sounds of the city, all of which allowed me to think differently than I usually would have of the park. It was a great reminder that learning isn't always sitting in a classroom and listening to a lecture. In fact, the best learning is learning that can be done with all of your senses.

Introduction: AI is a tool that has caught fire and is growing and advancing rapidly. With the growth of AI, there is an increase in worry about how AI will take over the labor market and how many people will be replaced in the workspace. One major field that AI will definitely dominate are call centers and customer support services. We will see a decrease in human activity and will see an increase in chatbots and virtual assistants that help with your needs. This proposal will break down the following questions: How will AI dominate customer service? How will we adapt to such changes?I will be covering to what degree will Artificial Intelligence replace humans in the workspace in the customer support field and how it will affect employment and structure.

Customer service is a crucial part of the workforce and is utilized everyday. Big companies, such as Amazon and Meta, have already switched to AI chatbots and virtual assistants to assist users effectively. 

Methods: For my methodology, I will be using a systematic review and qualitative methodology. For my primary sources, I will be using the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the World Economic Forum, and IBM. For my Secondary sources, I will be using data from McKinsey, Forbes and MIT tech review. and reports from firms that are using AI.

Results: Artificial Intelligence manage up to 65% of customer service interactions

Knowing and being aware of how artificial intelligence will change our customer service is very important as it is one of the biggest job sectors. Job displacement here can affect the economy, and gives us good insight on how we can learn to adapt to the integration of AI.

There are two main impacts of this topic. Social impact and economic impact. Looking at the social impact, we are looking at how AI might take customer service jobs and how many people rely on this field of work to support themselves and their families. For economic impact, companies are having to rethink how to hire workers and spend money. 

Conclusions: AI is advancing rapidly and is easily replacing humans in the workspace, specifically customer service, because of how efficient and easy it is. This change is going to cause a restructuring of customer support roles and make new demands for managing AI. 

III. Introduction 

AI has rapidly caught fire and with its rapid advancements, it is taking over customer service roles once dominated by humans. This huge takeover is due to the fact that customer service is really repetitive, which is where Ai thrives. According to the World Economic Forum, Ai is projected to take over millions of roles by 2030.We will see a decrease in human activity and will see an increase in chatbots and virtual assistants that help with your needs. This research project is important as it talks about how artificial intelligence may impact the labor force. It dives into social and economic implications, as long as ethics and workforce planning. 

IV. Methods

Context and setting: This research focuses on customer service and how it will change with the integration of AI. 

Study designs: Systematic review, qualitative

Population: Customer service workers, Companies that use AI

Sampling Strategy: Industry reports and big tech companies.

Main Study Variables: rates of increase in AI integration, human displacement, company motivations

Data Collection Instruments and Procedures: World Economic Forum, IBM Global AI Adoption Index, U.S. BLS employment projections, McKinsey, Forbes, MIT Technology Review Analyses.

V. Results

There are six sources in total that have been reviewed, three primary sources (WEF, IBM, BLS) and three secondary sources (McKinsey, Forbes, MIT Technology Review).

Key findings: There was lots of automation in the Customer Service Industry. According to McKinsey, up to 65% of interactions involving customer service is now done by AI. Additionally, according to a 2023 report done by IBM, 42% of companies have already started using AI in customer support. 

We are also seeing trends in job displacement. According to the World Economic Forum, up to 30% of customer service roles will be automated by 2030. Although this is the case, MIT Technology Review mentions that there are more openings for AI supervisors, Chatbot Trainers, and Automation Analysts. 

Secondary findings: Some other results are that, according to Forbes, AI adoption can mostly be attributed to efficiency, constant availability, and cost reduction. Additionally, it is becoming more common for workers to require digital/technological skills rather than call center skills. 

VI. Discussions

Main findings of the studies: Artificial intelligence is taking over customer service roles once dominated by humans. This is occurring at a fast pace due to how easy AI can do tasks, as it can do it much faster and more efficient than us. 

Main results with references to previous studies: The findings of McKinsey supports WEF, where there is a growing consensus that customer service employment will be much affected by automation. This is also agreed upon by publications from MIT Technology Review. 

Policy and Practice Implications of the Studies: Companies will have to start considering ethics when implementing artificial intelligence to avoid having too much displacement in a short amount of time. We will also need to make sure we have some sort of programs that will help displaced workers transition into other roles. Future workers also need to be educated for environments that are AI driven. 

Strengths and Limitations of the Studies: Some strengths include credible and more recent studies, as well as consistent findings between the sources. Some limitations include the lack of perspectives of the workers and interviews in order to get their input, as well as limitations in only customer service and not general labor markets. 

VII: Conclusions

Artificial intelligence is completely changing how we see the industry of customer service by incorporating large portions of automated tasks. Lots of traditional customer service jobs are declining, and future research should really dive into how we can adapt in the workforce long term, as well as the psychological impacts of automation and policy solutions that will assist displaced workers.
