The Ancient Egyptians were mainly polytheistic and believed in hundreds of Gods for different occasions. Almost every religion that was passed down to them, they did not question it. They strongly believed that after they would die, they would have an afterlife in a different world. When someone did die, they would gather stuff to put in their grave that they might need in their afterlife. A Pharaoh was the leader and the people also believed that the Pharaoh was also a God that would help them in their afterlife.

Even though the Ancient Egyptians believed in hundreds of gods, they believed in some more than others because they were more important. The first god was named Atum. One god that ancient Egyptians believed in was a god named Anubis determined your after life based on if your soul weighed more than a feather. If it did, that meant you would face complications in your afterlife. Two other gods named Amen-Ra and Osiris were God of the sun and the universe. Oris was believed to be the God to possibly make afterlife peaceful. They also believed in a god named Horus that was responsible for the sky.

This unit of Inquiry reminds me of many GRAPES catgeories in Social Studies. The temples are in the Arts and Achievements category. For every city that had a god, they had a temple for that God. People would help build those temples. The ruler, known as the Pharaoh could possibly be in Politics because they were involved in everything that happened and the people would follow. Ancient Egypt also had different Social Groups like the Pharaoh, Soldiers, Priests and Nobles, Farmers and Slaves.

Some beliefs that Ancient Egyptians believed are similar and different to some beliefs we have today. They believed that when you died, you would go to a new world and have an afterlife. Christians today also believe that you can have an after life as well. The God, Anubis would weigh your soul to a feather in Ancient Egypt. If your soul weighed more than the feather, you would have a complicated afterlife. Christian beliefs include based upon how you lived your life, your soul will spend its’ afterlife in either a good place or a bad place.

The Ancient Egyptians beliefs were created from a story that had been told for many years, which is considered to be the start of Ancient Egypt and tells how the gods were responsible for the creations of the world and it’s features. The story begins when a hill arose from the waters, this hill’s name was Ben-Ben. He was tall with lots of sand. The first god was named Atum and one day, he was standing on the hill. As he was standing on this hill, he coughed and brought two more gods Shu and Tefnut. Shu was the god of air and Tefnut was the god of moisture. There they stood on the hill together. When Shu and Tefnut later had two children, one became the god of the Earth and another god of the Sky. Their names were Geb and Nut. Nut and Geb had four children that were also important gods to the ancient egyptians. Osiris was the king and Isis was the Queen of the Earth. Osiris served for several years and was a good god to the people. Peace was not always kept between Osiris and his other sibling, Seth who was jealous of how Osiris got to rule the earth, which made him angry. He got so angry that he killed Osiris so that he could become king. Osiris went down to the underworld. His son Horus battled against Seth to earn back power back, which he later did and regained the throne. Horus became the new king of the underworld.
