The skier on this mountain is exhibiting high kinetic energy because he is converting all his potential energy to kinetic energy as he skis down the hill. He has high kinetic energy because he initially started with only potential energy and now as he skis down the slope that is all converted into kinetic energy. As the skier continues to convert his remaining potential energy into kinetic energy he will gain speed (mgh = mgh + 1/2mv^2). This equation applies because energy will be conserved because the snow has negligble friction.

In this photo the bull rider will feel the impulse as the bull's hoofs hit the ground. Impulse is mass times the change in velocity, and is the change in momentum. The momentum of the system is changing because the velocity of the system is changing. The velocity of the system is changing because when the bull jumps and runs in the pen, its velocity changes each time is speeds up, slows down, or changes direction.

The dancer is jumping up in the air. The direction of its motion is pointed up, but the acceleration vector is pointed down. The acceleration is pointed down because the only force acting on the dancer is the force due to gravity, and the vector of the acceleration due to gravity is pointed down, to earth. Since the acceleration vector is in the opposite direction of the dancer's motion, the dancer is exhibiting negative acceleration. The dancer slows down as she ascends due to the gravity acting in the opposite direction of the motion.
