Define and evaluate the concept of the perfect moment.

The perfect moment in music is harder to define then other musical elements. It is something that different people feel different feelings in. In some songs the perfect moment is right before the big impact and it is a moment of breath and life. Then other times it can be after the loudness and in the quiet moments where the musicians take a breath of relief after performing to their best and where the audience is lost in the space of the music.

Do you agree with Ratliff's argument regarding this musical element? Why or why not

Yes I do agree with Ratliff's argument regarding this element. I agree because the perfect moment is the moment that all else, everything that was, is now here in the moment of greatness. The perfect moment I agree is different to everyone. People might be able to find the same perfect moment however they might have different feelings toward that moment.

Examine at least one musical example in Ratliff's playlist

I chose to examine the Frank Sinatra song "Good-Bye" from Only the Lonely. This song really exemplifies the power of the perfect moment element. The song really goes up and down with emotions from being really soft to growing very loud. Then at some moments there are slow and almost still times where you can live in that perfect moment.

Musical example outside of Ratliff's playlist

For an example outside of Ratliff's playlist I chose a song with a lot of meaning to me. The song Ice Dance from the movie Edward Scissorhands was the first song I thought of when thinking about that perfect moment in music. This song starts off very quiet then slowly and gradually gets louder in a very moving way. It becomes powerful and soft at the same time. Then there are quiet breaks after the loudness, where the music becomes still. In this moment you can feel the power of the musicians and the power of audience.
