Ronald Reagan Assassination attempt

On 1981, march 30 John Hinckley Jr did an assassination attempt on President Ronald reagan, this happened near the Hilton Hotel in Washington. The rationale for this was because he wanted to impress Jodie Foster, an Oscar winning actress.

John Hinckley had a strong form of erotomania. This is a disorder that convinces you that someone is in love with you. Hinckley had this with Jodie Foster, however she turned him down. But this didn’t stop Hinckley, Jodie foster used to star in the film Taxi Driver, a movie Hinckley was very obsessed with, because Jodie Foster played a role in it. In the film one of the characters attacks a president candidate. Hinckley thought by himself that if he did the same, he would finally get the attention of Jodie Foster

Fortunately for the President and for the rest of the world the attack was not successful. He shot 6 bullets, the first five missed on the Reagan, because the Secret Service pussed the president in his limousine. However, the last shot hitted the president because it ricocheted from the vehicle into the arm of the president, after that the bullet shot through his chest and pierced a lung. Fortunately, the bullet stopped 1 centimeter from his heart.

Hinckley was arrested, but did not regret his actions. Eventually he was declared insane an locked up in a mental hospital.

On July 4, the Americans celebrate Independence Day. On that day in 1776, the National Congress adopted the American Declaration of Independence. With this statement, the Americans made them independent of the British monarchy.

Most of the Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson. He assumed the natural equality of all people on earth and that everyone has the right to life, the right for freedom and to pursuit your own happiness. When the statement was adopted it meant the official beginning of the American Nation as we know it.

The declaration of Independence was signed in total by 56 people. One signature of the declaration was very big for that time. This was the signature of John Hancock. He was in that time the chairman of the Continental Congress that adopted the declaration of Independence and was the first to place his signature on the well-known document. The signature of John Hancock was quite striking in size, compared to the other signatures. According to stories, Hancock did this so that King George III of England would read and remember his name.

The adoption of the US Declaration of Independence is still an important moment in the history of America and is therefore celebrated every year through parades and concerts.

On September 11, 2001, the United States was hit by one of the worst terrorist attacks in the history of the US. Nearly 3.000 people died on that day. Al-Qaida hijacked 3 passengers planes within one hour. A fourth hijack was planned, but luckily that one failed.

The first attack was on Manhattan, this is a neighborhood within New York City, which had the tallest building of New York, these buildings were called the Twin Towers. At 08:46 a hijacked airplane of the American Airlines flew into the most northern tower. At first people thought it was an accident, but about 20 minutes after the first plane collided on the first tower, the second tower was also hit. From that moment it was clear that there was a real attack on America. The south tower collapsed at 09:59 and the other tower followed at 10:28. Unfortunately every person who was on a floor higher than where the tower was smashed by the plane died.

The third attack became visible around 09:30 This one was aimed at the Pentagon in Washington. The fourth attack didn’t succeed because it was captured back by the passengers, however this plane still crashed in a field outside of Pittsburgh.

World War II - Bombing of Hirsohima and Nagasaki

The first and only nuclear attack in the history of men, was from America. The attack was on two cities in Japan, called Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The attack was done to defuse the enemy combat industry, as well as to lower the morale, so that Japan would give up the battle faster.

The air-attack was done on August 6 and 9, in 1945. The United Kingdom gave permission to do this air-attack. The air-attack resulted in approximately 200.000 deaths, most of them were Japanese civilians. The bombs were known as Little Boy and Fatman. The atom bombs were developed in a secret location, that was part of the Manhattan project in the US.

At the time, Einstein encouraged president Roosevelt to start development in the Atom industry, this is because Einstein learned about developments of Nazi chemists in Berlin. Chemist in Berlin found out to split the uranium atom. This ultimately ensures that a lot of energy is released which can cause for enough energy to power of an atomic bomb. However, the German Nazi’s were not that far at all to develop an atomic bomb. But his letter to the president has launched to the Manhattan project that ensured that the first atom bombs were developed by America and precisely those bombs were then used to destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This was one of the worst mistakes of Albert Einstein.

Albert Einstein once said: Mankind invented the atomic bomb, but no mouse would ever construct a mousetrap. We humans have created the equivalent of a mousetrap for ourselves.
