Hello! My name is Emily Rae Gingell, a curly-headed 19-year-old girl who is ambitious to become a First-grade teacher. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon up until I was 15 years old when my family decided as a cohesive unit to start over in Frisco, Texas. I am currently majoring in Elementary Education at the University of Arkansas to accomplish this dream. Growing up I always knew I was interested in being a teacher, but that solidified my sophomore year of high school when I just knew it was all I wanted to be. I was allowed to intern at my local elementary school where I student taught for 2nd grade. From the funny stories I can share to the smiles on their faces after they have mastered a skill, there is no other profession I’d rather do. Growing up with anxiety and ADHD I have a built-in awareness of strategies that benefit and assist me in teaching and understanding these students at a different level.

Cheese would have to be my absolute favorite of all the foods in the world. I currently have 2 English cream Golden Retrievers named Nellie and Marley. I am currently going into my sophomore year at the University of Arkansas as an elementary education major. I am a member of Delta Gamma! I am deathly afraid of heights and cotton balls. I have 1 sister named Kaitlyn who is 2 years older than me. My secret talent is that I can do the Dora voice perfectly and am great at tubing. My favorite book series I ever read growing up would have to be either Ivy and Bean or I Survived. Something cool I've done is winning multiple state championships in Soccer and Gymnastics. Lastly, In the future, I would love to travel to Barcelona or Greece.

Philosophy

Out of all the educational philosophies, I would say I relate most to Progressivism. This essentially means that I believe that teachers should focus on the whole child rather than just the content. This means that the child is learning actively and not passively. Progressivism lines up almost entirely with my own beliefs because I strongly believe that teaching involves not only curriculum but also how to grow as a person. This is just one of many things I hope to achieve as a teacher. I will teach my students not only educational skills but everyday skills including communication, leadership, problem-solving, listening, and more. This will help the way I shape my classroom by connecting with my students beyond the surface. I will be able to provide a safe environment that motivates my students.
