Strengths:

The lesson aligns with content standards empha sizing engagement with literary texts and communication of ideas clearly, with specific learning standards targeting detailed explanation of story development and main points of arguments.

The content covers core literary elements: plot, characters, and theme, which are central to understanding and engaging with fiction. This approach encourages students to go beyond surface reading and think critically about the story.

The “Twist the Tale” activity is a great idea as it encourages students to use their creativity while demonstrating a strong understanding of the original storyline by rewriting an alternate ending based on a modified character trait.

Collaborative pair work is used for deeper engagement: one pair explores additional themes, another describes main characters with textual support, and a third analyzes key plot components. The pairs present their findings, promoting interactive and student-centered learning.

To improve:

It would be beneficial for teachers to include character trait slides rather than only explaining them verbally. Not all students can focus or retain information effectively through listening alone, especially in mixed-ability classrooms.

Teachers should consider offer extra support during the activity 2 by brainstorming ideas as a class or providing a template for alternate endings.

*All in all, both teachers did a great job

The strategy allows for shared learning and reduces pressure on individual students.

A variety of teaching tools using canva slides, youtube video, posters, and random name pickers helps make the lesson visually engaging and technologically enriched.

To improve:

While activities are rich, the ‘While’ section is dense with multiple sub-tasks. There’s a risk of rushing or sacrificing depth in discussion. Consider pacing the lesson by simplifying some tasks.

“Differentiate by the type and amount of support” is mentioned but not clearly demonstrated in the lesson. Teacher might elaborate on how they will support students who need help during the writing task.

The use of a name picker is a fun touch, but reflection might be richer if guided with prompts. For example, “What surprised you about the story?”
