How do the themes compare?

Our themes do not compare due to the fact that our characters from each of our stories have a different perspective on war. For example in the beginning of the 2nd passage one of the character says “Do you think they’ve killed all the Arabs in Khartoum” and in passage 1 one of the characters says “leaving was better than being dead”. This goes to show the drastic contrast between the two passages perspectives of war, in passage 1 the character would rather leave his village than stay and fight, while in passage 2 the main character is excited at the prospect of war

The theme of both passages are: there is no choice in war, yes they are connected, in “along way gone” and “war child” the show that there is no choice in fighting because either way you will die. “A long way gone” he says “ leaving the village is as good as being dead” telling us that they would have died
