As a teacher, after watching the video of Sami's significant progress in his development, what steps would you take to create a structured and calm classroom environment that caters to the needs of all children, including those who require more attention and closeness? How can you involve parents in the process of acknowledging and monitoring the progress of children, especially those who require special attention like Sami?

By creating a structured and calm environment, involving parents, and tailoring support to individual needs, I as a teacher, can foster a nurturing and inclusive space where all children, including Sami, can thrive and make progress in their educational journey. I would take the following steps:
1. establish clear expectations and routines, setting consistent rules, schedules and procedures to provide predictability.
2. provide individualised support, identifying the children's needs and offering tailored assistance during differentiated teaching
3. Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere, encouraging respect, empathy and understanding amongst all children in class
4. communicate with parents by providing regular updates on their child's progress and involve them in goal-setting.
5. engage in open dialogue by creating opportunities for parents to share insights and experiences about their child's growth
6. collaborate with parents involving them in the IEP and ensuring open lines of communication to make necessary adjustments and monitor progress.

To create a learning environment that allows Sami and other children with special needs and not only, you need to arrange the desks so that the teacher can sit next to a child and not lose sight of the rest of the class. For example, I would put the benches in the shape of a horseshoe, so children can look at each other and the teacher can see all the children. In the middle I would create a common work area, maybe even with cushions, where children can sit and read something together.
I would put posters on the walls made by the students, with the results of their activities (for example history, mathematics, foreign language, science, geography, etc.).
Parents could help by giving guidance on how the student is used to managing the space at home, what colors he especially loves, how he likes to sit down to read or write, so as to recreate a space conducive to his learning.

Classrooms need space and good seating arrangement where students can freely move around in class. Educators needs to create a good structured environment within the classroom by providing visual time tables, schedules, and clear classroom rules. Peer support should also be encouraged so that students feel that they belong and have a role in their classroom. Parents can have access to online platforms like Microsoft TEAMS where they can see updates from the class teacher to what is going on during every day classroom activities.

I love this sentence and it could be my motto.
Parents have already learned to see time differently and emphasize a "carpe diem" attitude while still considering concerns about the future. This creates more openness instead of constantly closing, requiring an exercise in creativity and thinking differently. Enthusiasm for every small step taken is important, and parents often bring a long-term perspective to inclusive situations, believing that what is not currently possible may be in the future.

It is very important to follow some routine in class which is set by the teacher and the students at the beginning of the school year. Of course, this result is achieved after a lot of effort by both sides. Therefore, a quiet and calm classroom will permit the teacher to pay more attention in special pupils, who need special approach. Frequent communication with parents, after school meetings with them, talking not only about behavioral matters but about the demands of school subjects and how they can help their children at home are some good vibes for parental inclusion.

In collaboration with parents, it is important to establish a network. Inclusion is the work of many people. But how do we achieve this? First and foremost, it is important to acknowledge that parenting is hard work, and this applies to every parent. When a child has special needs, this means even more a searching process into what works and what doesn't. In establishing a relationship with parents, it is important to acknowledge this search process. There is no manual with a step-by-step plan to follow. It means that as a teacher, you step out of the expert position. Additionally, it is important to get an understanding of who is already involved. Perhaps there is a good family friend who can join a meeting to explore possibilities together. Furthermore, it is important that the tasks and actions that need to be carried out can be shared with different people. It should not all fall on the parents' shoulders. Think about the parents of the children in the class and school who are often willing to help support. A positive attitude from the school to seek help together helps to establish strong relationships.

As Kerschbaum suggests, accessibility is a mindset and an ongoing process of planning, designing, and adapting our teaching around the needs of our students. While designing accessible, inclusive learning environments is essential for meeting the needs of students with disabilities, doing so will ultimately help all of our students learn and succeed.
Integrating accessible, inclusive strategies into your teaching practice takes effort. However, investing in accessible teaching can reduce last-minute scrambling, takes less time than remediating inaccessible materials, and may reduce the number of accommodation requests you receive.
If we include parents in our planning, it is easier for them to get involved and see their children progress. We can give them a resume of the contents of the day so that they can reinforce the vocabulary or definitions at home.
This teacher has students learning using different strategies and instruments and it makes them feel resonsible for their acquaintances and eager for more knowledge. It is also based on trust, since the teacher asks one of teh students to get the solutions sheet and correct the work she had done.
