Moons feature in many of Ansel Adams photographs. It is difficult to take photographs including the moon where it doesn't either appear as an over-exposed white disc, or if a negative giving this is manipulated at the printing stage, a featureless grey disc. By 1960 Adams was sufficiently skilled in anticipating exposure, in his visualization of his images and in the practical application of his zone system, that his photographs including the moon could show the moon in detail and as a three dimensional object.

Winter on Fifth Avenue was shot by Alfred Stieglitz in 1893 and was printed in 1905. This is considered one out of the many important photos. To capture this image Stieglitz had to wait there to capture the vertical composition to its focal point and the details of the urban surroundings. To create an Impressionistic appearance. This image will always be his most well known photo especially since he enhance his "camera work" skills and capture the busy New York street in the midst of a snowstorm.
