This book, written by Betty Friedan in 1963, coincides with the rise of the feminist movement during that time. The book covers the struggles of the housewife which she calls "the problem that has no name". It covers the struggles of women during that time in all aspects of life including their careers, their social life, the economy, and politics. I really enjoyed reading this book because Friedan perfectly describes the struggles many women face in a way that I previously couldn't. I also enjoyed reading it because it is historically significant for the feminist movement.

In Lynn Weingarten's Suicide Notes From Beautiful Girls, every page is a completely different and shocking twist and turn. The main character June lost her ex-bestfriend Delia to a deemed suicide, although June knew Delia would never kill herself. Delia's ex-boyfriend convinced June that Delia was murdered, which was more believable than the cause of death claimed by the morticians. The ending is very unexpected, although some details throughout the novel were left unexplained.

Boy 21 is a book about friendship, adversity, and acceptance. Written by Matthew Quick, his ability to create realistic characters helps you understand the main character, Finley's mindset as he is forced to take basketball phenom that plays his position with PTSD and an obsession with outer space under his wing after a tragic family accident while living in a town ruled by the Irish mob. A book so unique can either leave some uninterested while enamoring others, such as myself.
