Storms end. Strength stays.

The parade of typhoons is sweeping our country so critically. Lives are being taken, homes are being destroyed: hope, seemingly, is being taken from us. In these lowly times, as clichè as it may be, we need to hold on in the power of resilience. Not because we are fond of romanticizing it, but because it is the only remaining way to survive. Just like any storm, these turbulent times will pass. But what will remain, unyielding and steadfast, is us. Let's be an image of strength for our family, friends, and community.

Perez, Chris Aldyerre P.

STEM I

Bright Eyes”

Typhoons are fierce forces of nature that bring challenges to everyone, especially when people are unprepared. This short, impactful tagline urges us not to be overwhelmed by fear but to face the storm with clear focus, careful preparedness, and steady readiness. It reminds us that vigilance and awareness are our strongest defenses against the unpredictable forces of nature. When we open our eyes wide, watchful and ready, we can face any storm—emerging not just safe, but stronger, braver, and more connected. Because even in the darkest moments, there is always light.

Numerous typhoons strike the Philippines every year, causing countless tragedies, calamities, and sorrows, whether they affect our environment, infrastructure, communities, or, worst of all, our fellow citizens. This is due not only to the typhoon but also to our failure and the failure of those in positions of authority; our supposed role as citizens is to protect our environment and follow the rules that have been established in order for us to live comfortably, but we continue to do the opposite, such as littering, which causes blockage in the drainage system, which then results in flooding. As for the authorities, there is a failure to properly handle the problems caused by persistent rain brought on by typhoons; they have been collecting taxes on almost everything that Filipinos do, but it appears that that tax is wasted on things that are not felt by the taxpayers; even solutions such as flood control and improved drainage are not given proper attention by the officials, resulting in floods occurring on a yearly basis. Direct measures with a significant impact are not felt by Filipinos every year during the rainy season, and when a typhoon strikes, the scenario and problems remain the same. Our resilience is what sustains us, not the appropriate solution to our nation’s issues.

PEREZ, MYLISSA T.

STEM I - St. Nicolas
