The factor that differentiates the normal anxiety form abnormal anxiety is the intensity. When referring to the intensity there are a couple of factors that must be considered. The intensity has to match how the person really feels, the level of the anxiety has to correspond to the event that caused the anxiety, the length of the anxiety, and if the person is able to determine that danger has occurred.
