Winn-Dixie is better at making friends than anyone Opal has ever known, and together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block, who once fought off a bear with a copy of War and Peace. They meet Gloria Dump, who is nearly blind but sees with her heart, and Otis, an ex-con who sets the animals in his pet shop loose after hours, then lulls them with his guitar. Opal spends all that sweet summer collecting stories about her new friends, and thinking about her mother. But because of Winn-Dixie or perhaps because she has grown, Opal learns to let go, just a little, and that friendship-and forgiveness-can sneak up on you like a sudden summer storm. Jack and his best friend Gus end up on the same team it is supposed to be their year and they are favored to win.When Jack makes a choice not to baseball he finds himself short on friend. Gus is mad because it was their year now Jacks only friends are Callie a star softball  player and Teddy Madden a kid that is constantly teased for his weight. Hawk is very skilled and can sniff out anything. They were in Washington DC. Meg was at home with her sister. She was telling her about a case she was on. The phone rang and Meg picked it up. It was her friend Brian. He said that she was needed ASAP.  A bomb had went off at a building. Meg was sent to look for survivors. The same thing continued for weeks. Meg then was sent to catch the bomber. She found him on a mountain. They battled forever. Hawk got shot but still lived. The man was put in prison and everything was back to normal.

Barry has a friend Jay. Together they both made a little character named Akivo. They then try to get into the competition and win money. They hear on the radio that there will be a storm. Barry's dad, Barry's mom and Barry's little sister Cleo all huddle together in the attic so the water doesn't reach them. They find an axe in the corner in the attic and they all get onto the roof. Barry rolled off the roof and gets lost in the storm. Barry gets nervous and can't find home. He hears a dog. It was Abe's dog. Abe is Barry's neighbor down the street but Abe is a bully to Barry and Jay. Abe's dogs name is Cruz. Barry is too scared to go see because he doesn't want to get bitten by Cruz. He and Cruz were on an adventure trying to find water and needed help. A girl named Nell saved them and she came with a small boat through the water. They got help from her and she helped them find help. Barry and his dad, mom and Cleo were back together. They wanted to be safe and together next time a storm comes. 
I really recommend this book !! It is realistic fiction.
