August Pullman can be described as nervous in the beginning of the story. In the novel Auggie states, " Since I've  never been to a real school before, and i a totally and completely petrified" (Palacio 4). This shows that he is really scared to go to school. Auggie can also be described as courageous at the end of the novel. 

In the novel Auggie states, " Look, I said stepping in the front of Jack and holding my hand up in the air like a traffic cab. We're a lot smaller than you guys" (                      ). This shows that he was standing up for himself and Jack and being brave. Thus this shows that Auggie changes throughout the novel. Via is another main character in the the novel. Via is described as protective in the novel. In the novel Auggie states, " She can get really annoyed when people do something rude... One time in the playground some older kids made some noises. I don't even know what the noises were exactly because i din't hear them myself but Via heard  and she just started yelling at the kids. She is very close to him and doesn't want people being mean to him. Via is also described as understanding in the novel. In the text Via states, " I'm used to the way the universe works. I've never minded it because its all I've known. I've always understood that August is special needs" (Palacio 82). This shows that her brother needs more attention then her. Thus this shows that Via has different traits

But one that stands out is Being different is okay. This means that inside qualities make a beautiful person not by the outside qualities. In the novel the text states, "Thank you Auggie... For what? For everything you've given us ... For coming in our lives. For being you... You really are a wonder Auggie. Auggie, you are a wonder" (Palacio 310). This theme relates to the novel because Auggie is different because he has a  deformed face but he acts like a normal kid. But that doesnt mean that he isnt beautiful on the inside. The setting takes place in multiple places. They are modern day, North River Heights, Auggies house, and Beecher Prep. Auggies initial conflict is that Auggie has a facial deformity so he has to be homeschool. Now it is time for him to go to real school. Next, is that Jack, Charlotte, and Julian give Auggie a tour of the school, Jack made fun of Auggie behind Auggies back. Jack punches Julian in the face, and lastly Jack cant go to the Nature Retreat. The turning Point is when Jack and Auggie go in the woods to use the bathroom and then confront by some older kids from another school. Auggie stands up for himself and Jack and then his friends Amos, Miles and Henry stand stick up for him too, provving they are his true friends. Then the students are nice to Auggie, Julian isnt going to be in Beecher Prep next year. Auggies artwork was hung up in Mr. Tushmans office. The ending was when Auggie had a good year at Beecher prep. Auggie made a lot of friends. He got the Henry ward Beecher Prep award.
