How do we ensure that our transformations are as "fair" as they can be - that there is some rationale behind it, and it is not convenience, given that it is not as easy to "check" or audit a map like it is with a statistical analysis?

to what degree is cartogrpahic representation consdierations about best practices one might find in a general cartography textbook vs ethical considerations? design IS an ethical issue and codified as such in some ethics statements - bad design is an ethical problem. Design is the throughline for what cartographers do, IMO
