I instructed my peers that had less experience than me with different kayak paddle techniques.
We focused on many different strokes. For example, sweep strokes, draw strokes, the stern rudder and bow rudder. The main aim of this session was to get everyone confident enough to identify each paddle technique and be able to pursue them in a demonstration. It was also to ensure that everyone knew how to place their body in a kayak in case of a capsizing.
Assessor: Emrys Cook

In this session we mainly focused on how to correctly position yourself on the bike.
We looked at the attack position where you stand up on the bike whilst going down a slope/hill and have your arms and legs slightly bent to brace your body for any in even terrain. You also need to ensure that your peddles are level with each other so that there is no way of them hitting any rocks or bits of tree stump on the way down the slope. You need to ensure that you are looking in the directly you wish to travel so that your body knows how to position its self in the attack position ready for the down hill.
Assessor: Colin Johnson

In level 1 Sport and Outdoor education one of our units was to host a leadership session at Mallards Pike Lake. I lead a raft building session to a group of Gloucester college students. They would get the opportunity to get involved with a new sport that they had never done before. I instructed them whilst two teams would build their rafts using plastic barrels, wood and rope. I first gave them a demonstration of a good raft structure that they may have wished to use ensuring that they were paying close attention to the knots I was using. They then built their rafts and put them to test on the water hoping that they were successful in keeping them a flout.
Assessor: Colin Johnson 28/04/2016

The group I instructed was a group from Gloucester College and got the opportunity to go on a fun bike trail that would test their abilities. I took them on one of the easier tracks as I was unsure of their capabilities so I wanted to see what they were capable of. They told me it was a good choice of track and they would do it again.
Assessor:Colin Johnson 05/04/201

This session was help at Mallards Pike lake. The group that was lead was ESOL from Gloucester college. The main aim of this session was to produce a successful session in mountain biking. This session I found difficult to lead as the clients didn't know much English and it was difficult to communicate with them in a way they would understand. Although there was a language barrier between instructor and client it was over all a successful session.
Assessor: Colin Johnson. 25/04/2017

Throughout each leadership session there has been some good sessions and bad sessions but I didn't let the bad ones get to me. I reviewed the feedback for each negative comment and I adapted them and improved to lead a more successful session in the future. I feel that I have gained more skills and more experience that I will need for my future Outdoor education career. I hope to persue a career within the fire services in the future and I personally feel that I have gained the experience and knowledge that will help me to progress on to this stage of my life. I have enjoyed every session and I feel that having my college lecturers giving me feedback will help me progress in life doing what I enjoy. I have become more confident throughout the whole leadership session experience and can say with confidence I feel I can lead a successful session on my own.
