Zhi Lin's art work
I can't say that I really love this picture, but I have to say: It really impresses me a lot.
Zhi Lin's artwork is mostly about things in the early 20th century in China. this picture is probably about things happened in the 1910s.
I have to say the technique Lin use is really impressive, first, the color, all the prisoner's body and face are black ans white, that probably means they have died in both spirit and flesh. However, the common people who looked around only have face black and white, their clothes are still colorful, why? That has a close relationship with the history of China, At that time, the great revolution still didn't occured, So most people are ignorant, they just want to satisfy their own flesh need, look at what they are doing, they are still selling things, and all of them don't have any facial expression, even the kid doesn't have any! They are just like, watching plays and with no psychological fluctuation, they are numb.
The executioner in the picture all have a strange smile on their face. What make them smile? the pleasant sensation of killing? or they are pleased with the kill of the bad guys? I prefer the first one, probably these prisoners were political criminals and they actually want the country to get better( there are lots of unsuccessful revolution at that time and many people died because of this), however, the executioners are still smiling!
So, Zhi Lin's art work always have a lot of connection with the history of China and he has the ability to present the circumstances vividly
