I like the idea of using complex instruction in my foreign language classes when my students write skits in class.  Assigning roles, or letting students choose roles later in the year, that allow a students to work to their strengths and develop confidence for being "good at something" is a great thing.

When I think of the components of the Complex Instruction strategy, I think about how well it would work for my students when we do group critiques of artwork. I think this would be a great way for them to work cooperatively in groups while practicing their critiquing skills. I personally would incorporate Complex Instruction in my classroom at the end of a Unit. I believe that this strategy is a great way for students to take ownership of their learning, and working together collaboratively. I have used the CI strategy specifically having students create a game board.
