How selfish is it OF ME TO DENY THEM FREEDOM FROM THEIR PAIN. This is a very realistic situation to me since my mother has had chronic pain and now recently cancer. I love her dearly. She is my world and I am her favorite. I've been with her since my beginning and she has been the most wonderful mother and best friend anyone could ever hope to have. However, if one day she were to ask me to assist her...I wouldn't hesitate. I wouldn't ask why because I damn well know why. I wouldn't talk her out of it because how could I understand HER pain. She is a grown woman first my mother second no matter what she may say. She is her own person and I'll be damned if I let her think that she'd be in it alone. So yeah I support this controversial practice. In all honesty, I could give a rat behind about my own health. But I know for sure that I do not want to grow old. I hardly enjoy the prospect of life as is and as a cynic of all that is "positive" about life, I can say I dislike the idea of living on. That being said, to me, suicide is very selfish and a waste of resources(at a young age=>60) nothing is worse than a waste of time and effort. However, if I were to have a chronic pain that would make life unsuitable, or unbearable for me then I wouldn't hesitate to find some sort of hospice or a program like the one from the PBS special.
