Story telling provides a perspective into lives that we would miss if not for sharing and listening. "Single stories robs people of their dignity". About 20 years ago I had a parent ask me what I knew about teaching Moors. I had not been familiar with the term or the culture. The internet was not a helpful option. I wish the mom would have wanted to share more with me, but I'm sure it was exhausting for her as well.

Stories are personal and stories connect us. Storytelling is an ancient art form passed down from the elder generation onto younger generations. Listening to stories is powerful, and helps us make deeper connections by learning details about not only each other's lives, but which stories we choose to tell.

The process of storytelling is a way for individuals to come together as a community, or classroom, and develop feelings empathy for others. It is a way to share insight, experiences, and knowledge: storytelling is teaching.

Storytelling heals the misconceptions we learn about "otherness". We begin to exchange similarities and not differences. It is how we build a bridge between cultures. Students can grow and a community can come together over are shared experiences.

Storytelling is a way to scape the prison of our own mind and conceptions. Unfortunately a lot of efforts towards anti-racism get stuck by the notion that "If it hasn't happened to me, it doesn't exist." Storytelling is the key to liberation and true emancipation.

Telling our stories and listening to others' shape the way we interact with others because it adds personalization to our reality. Storytelling makes everything more personable and relatable. Sometimes when the readings for the week are difficult for me to understand, our sharing of stories and ideas help make sense of what's being discussed.

Storytelling is a way that empower students by allowing them to finish their whole story. Stereotypes precede everyone, esp minorities. By them telling their story, they can not only dispel myths but reclaim their identity. It can be powerful and therapeutic. It can also function as a way for individuals of similar identities to build community through shared similar experience.

Telling only one story or hearing only one story over and over is silencing and dehumanizing. When we start to hear different stories and tell our different stories we can begin to see how we are all human. Without stories or to deny stories is unimagnable to me.

I think telling our stories is the closest we will get to walking in someone else's shoes. It encourages empathy and give people and insight into why people do and act the way they do. This is especially important for our students and understanding their behaviors.

Storytelling is good for our students. They often have a hard time realizing that we too can go through the same struggles. We can help them find their strengths and empower them in ways that will influence them in later years.

Storytelling helps us connect with one another and also helps us tear down walls between one another. It's easy to limit ourselves to the conversations with the people in our bubble but once we hear stories from people across lines of difference we can start to see the humanity in people who are different from us.

1st I LOVE LOVE LOVE this ted talk. Favorite of all time. I feel like storytelling is a way of capturing feelings, emotions, experiences and life lesssons that just can't be learned in a quantitative study. Qualitative data plays an important role in any study and should be explored if able. IT empowers people that their experiences matter

Telling our stories helps build connections to our students and community members. We develop common ground which build stronger communication. When students share their stories, they can feel heard, valued, and cared for.

This is one of my favorite TedTalks. Storytelling is very important because when we share our stories we show others what it's like living in our own existence. Each person's experiences are unique. Storytelling helps us connect with the writer because we listen to their story and we can empathize with them. It opens our eyes to other ways of being.

I think something important that comes from sharing your stories with students and communities is that you are able to find potential ways to relate with one another, strengthening the bond shared between everybody. A good storyteller should also be able to listen intently to the stories of others, and so I think in pursuing storytelling as a way to bring together communities with schools is a powerful and relatable way to bring in not just CRT into schools, but to radically transform public education.

Storytelling is very powerful especially when it is personal stories. This especially good for education as it allows students to hear real life situations and adds a lot of authenticity to the teachings. This can help foster more engagement with students.
