]]> 2021-09-03 12:37:25 UTC https://padlet.com/nicolerugel4/prkrfu9bpwbihny7/wish/1715134142 https://padlet.com/nicolerugel4/prkrfu9bpwbihny7/wish/1715142959 The ancient kata that are practiced in today's karate originate from China and Okinawa, but it is difficult to know exactly how they were originally since they were transmitted by generations of teachers and students undergoing continuous modifications.  It is easy to observe how the same kata changes many of its techniques from one school to another, and it can even change its name.

 Many kata were introduced to the island of Okinawa by people who had practiced martial arts in China for years.  Back on the island, these techniques were transmitted and combined with a primitive form of karate called Okinawa-Te.  As an example of this, history allows to cite Chatan Yara, Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura, Hanryo Higahonna and Kambun Uechi, among others.

 Other kata arrived in Okinawa thanks to the commercial and cultural exchange between China and Okinawa.


Karate is a martial art developed in the in what is now Okinawa, Japan. It was developed from indigenous fighting methods called te literally "hand"; Tii in Okinawan) and Chinese kenpō.Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands.
