The American Flag was created on an unknown date. It was said that it was designed by Congressman Francis Hopkins, and sewn by Betty Hopper. The name “Old Glory” was coined by a sailor named William Driver. Driver’s flag survived multiple attempts to be defaced during the civil war. Congress passed multiple acts changing the design of the flag, and adding stars, and stripes. 

The flag today consists of 13 stripes with 7 red and 6 white, and 50 stars. The original flag was placed in a museum after surviving a 25 hour bombing and inspiring the “Star Spangled Banner”. The flag is flown at half mast to mourn deaths. 6 flags were placed on the moon to represent the 6 missions to space. The flag was placed on Mount Everest. 

The color white on the flag represents purity and innocence. Red represents hardiness, and valour. Blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. On July 4th 1776, a committee was chosen to make a seal for the country. The Flag was that seal.
