The Mexico Independence movement was led by four main leaders. Miguel Hidalgo, a Roman Catholic Priest known as "the father of Mexican Independence," initiated the revolt against Spanish rule, advocating for racial equality and land distribution. Although his efforts did not resolve all issues, they ignited the Mexican independence movement. Hidalgo was later executed, leading to Jose Maria taking over and convening the Congress of Chilpancingo, declaring Mexico's independence in 1813. Jose Maria was also killed, passing leadership to Vincente Guerrero, who played a crucial role in the war's final stages. Guerrero allied with Agustin de Iturbide to issue the Plan of Iguala, resulting in Mexico's independence in 1821. Agustin briefly ruled as Emperor before being overthrown and killed.
