Newspapers, story's and books all came out about ending slavery and the negatives of slavery. In the north slavery had been dealt with and had been over but in the south southerners had still been using slaves for work. In the north instead of saves they used kids and women as labor workers. The labor reforms were very harsh and in very bad quality. In 1865 slavery was abolished. Women had few political and legal rights they also had no suffrage. Anything that belonged to a single womens ended up belonging to their husbands once married. Also any money or wages they make belonged to their husbands and there was no law or rule on abusing your wife.
