What are some Rhetorical Devices we’ve noticed within these pages?

Imagery: Bradbury tries to give us a realistic and comprehensive view of Mars with the use of imagery. The description of the Martian world, with its "silver threads of water," enhances the reader's sensory experience and helps them become part of the story and really understand Mars.

Foreshadowing: Bradbury uses foreshadowing to build suspense and curiosity about what will happen on Mars by dropping hints and making discreet suggestions. Using foreshadowing we start to see the possible future of not only the martians but Mars as a whole, Bradbury does this to add suspense and keep the reading wonder what’s next.

These rhetorical strategies add to the story's overall text, turning the exploration of Mars into an interesting story that allows the reader to be immersed mentally.

Our discussion for this agenda focused on how the author addressed the topic of racial discrimination.

What was the main takeaway from the “Interim”(Night Meeting)?

The main idea of the "Night Meeting" is about time being flexible and different for everyone. Two characters, one from Earth and one from Mars, talk about their lives, and it's like they're from two different time frames. The meeting conveys that time isn't always the same and can feel different for each person. It makes us wonder about how our experiences shape our understanding of time. Bradbury does a good job of depicting both sides and how their time frames are different. Our group found this topic confusing at first, but we discussed it and dug deeper into the main point of it.

2005-finish

Reflection

When we met to discuss the book this week we as a group had a lot to talk about, we thought it was interesting how in the beginning of the reading Mars was colonized by settlers. Not only that though, how they send up the elders to “reform society” basically stating how they don’t really care for them. Then we discussed how in November of 2005 news reached marks about a possibility of war with Earth, Father Peregrine stated that most people on Mars will leave to support their families on earth although he had left the planet because of other threats. Towards the end of November War starts to spread across Mars as many people leave their homes to watch the “green star” many people talk about their old lives and families back on Earth. While watching the Earth then explodes and burns while they watch. The settlers on Mars are in absolute shock after the burning stops they see a Morse code message which says to COME HOME. After the settlers make their way back to Earth Mars is left completely vacant while a man named Walter walks around the streets reminiscing what it used to be. Then down the road in April 2026, the books states the difference in 20 years shows how Hathaway still lives on Mars with his family. He then sees a rocket flying at Mars and gets very happy thinking someone has come to save them which exactly happens, he says he would have killed himself without his family. This shows what 20 years on a different planet will do. Later that year in October the book shows the significance of what has happened in their lifetime, as this family goes up to Mars as what the children think is a “vacation” they do not realize what they have gotten themselves into entill their rocket explodes and they have no ride home, the children ask their father what they are going to do, he tells them that a rocket full of his buddies and family’s is stopping soon and they can go home, they search around and now fully understand the significance of the situation.
