-burials vary depending on the culture of the deceased inidividual
- in modern western societies, two main 'burial' types are burials in coffins and cremarion
-ancient practices were very spirituality focused, for example, the Ancient Egyptians believed in an afterlife where the heart would be weighed against a feather, and the body of the deceased was prepared accordingly
-some cultures, such as several Indian groups, tend to focus on preservation of the soul of the deceased, and not the preservation of the body, so they dispose of the body ( generally by putting it in the river )
