FORMING and STORMING Stage

For the forming stage, it was a little awkward at first on where to start our discussion, but thanks to everyone’s kindness, we were able to create a comfortable zone in our meeting and have a nice discussion. At first, we had problems with opening Zoom and getting into our meeting, but due to our common problem, we were able to bond through that. At this moment, we were mixed in between the forming and storming stage as we discussed the main topic but our main topic was also something that let us learn about each other more. So we were able to move forward to the storming stage without any problem. In the storming stage, different points were brought up but no one disagreed and were all very respectful towards each other. We even explored about each other’s conflict styles and personalities and asked questions to delve deeper in the topic. We were able to work well together, set our different roles, and maintain a happy environment thanks to our common goal, a common indicator of the storming stage.

Group 5’s Zoom Meeting took place on October 29, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. and each of us were either on our phone or computer for the meeting.

At first, we had trouble getting on the meeting. Minhthu was the one who hosted the meeting and she had trouble recording the meeting because she was on her phone at first. After changing to her computer, we were able to record the whole meeting. For Alexzandra, she had trouble with the link so Minhthu sent her the ID and passcode to enter the meeting. All members then were present for the meeting. We first started off by discussing our personality type, our strengths and weaknesses, our conflict styles and how they are compatible and not compatible. We also talk about the group task roles and who we thought suited the roles. Later on, we talked about what the project of what it entails and decided that what we discussed answered most questions. For time sake, we decided to contact each other through our group chat for better clarification and thus ended our meeting on a good note. We also talked about the different roles we would play on pages 189, and 190 and discussed that a little more.

Our strengths as a group are willingness to help others, being detail-oriented, good socializing skills, being rational, and putting others’ needs over ourselves. With our strengths, we were able to communicate with each other and take action appropriately. We came up with ideas that would adapt to our personal schedules and used social media to communicate with each other easily. We take notes of each other's personalities and what worked best for us individually and as a group. Thanks to everyone’s participation and our strengths, we were able to finish the project efficiently and without trouble or conflict.

Our weaknesses as a group are inability to see limits, putting others before self, being spontaneous, being sensitive, and sometimes being closed off. Due to our group varying in personality, there are people who would speak up more and those who don’t. We agreed that we are similar and not similar in many different ways. We tend to go with the flow more most of the time so some of the stuff we think of are on the spot. While we are flexible with each other, it can be slightly damaging to our planning skills as we ignore our limitations and be indecisive on some decisions. And sometimes, some of us don’t have an opinion and thus we can’t get majority votes either. However, it is thanks to our weaknesses that we are able to understand how we work individually and as a group. By acknowledging our weaknesses, we were able to work on the project with no conflicts.

Group Roles and Tasks

For Minhthu, she was more of the initiator and procedural technician and it goes well with her personality because she tends to be the one who starts things and once people are comfortable, she would take a step back and let others take the lead. She is more of a follower as she is pretty flexible with anything and prefers it to put other people’s needs over her own.

As for Alexzandra, she was more of an Information Seeker, because she is always looking for new information on a topic and trying to fully and completely understand something so if people in my group have questions, she can actually answer them and they are not left on the spot, and she will also think of different questions other people outside of our group might have, so if someone else has questions for the group and they call on of one of us for a question they fully know the answer. She, would also be a Harmonizer, because whenever there is conflict or a fight starts and their needs to be a tension release, she’s a total weirdo, when their is conflict you need to release the tension so the group members that are fighting would stop and then think for a second and work things out, and she is really good at relieving tension, she will start dancing like a nut or scream singing girls just wanna have fun and pretty much do anything she can to make them stop and laugh for a second.

When it comes to Ilona, she sees herself as more of a compromiser and an observer/interpreter. Although we didn’t have much conflict arise in our group, she believes that if we would've, she would take part in finding a solution. In a way, this confirms both her personality type and conflict types. She likes to make sure that everyone is pleased, and with her personality type, she likes to look at details and work on one task at a time. This means that if there was conflict, she wouldn’t be able to continue with the project until all conflict is resolved. As for the observer, all is going well, she just kind of sits in the back, listening to everyone say what they have to say and observe what kind of people they are/personality types.

And for Jayden, she believes she is an energizer and an opinion giver. Due to her personality trait and conflict style, it is known that she is not one to sit in silence, if she has thoughts or opinions. She's very aware of when she speaks and how she speaks with others. When working in a group she is one to give thoughts or ideas (even if they aren’t the best) because she is more sensitive than the average person. She also believes that she is an encourager & harmonizer, she is someone who prefers going with the flow for the most part as long as we (the group) are working to achieve that common goal!

And for Ashley, in the group task roles, she would be more of the information giver. This person researches, organizes, and presents relevant information; sticking to facts and keeping it straight forward. She thinks she would also be the opinion giver, when she feels comfortable sharing. For the group maintenance role, she would most likely be the observer/interpreter. This person monitors and interprets feelings and nonverbal communication and can then paraphrase the other member’s comments. She would also fall into the category of a follower and support the group and its members whenever they ask or need it. This very much fits into my Briggs-Myers-Jung personality typology, INTJ. Overall, these are all of our groups task roles and they all confirm and fit into the My Briggs-Myers-Jung personality typology.
